Portuguese = Super Guerreiros

Super Warriors sounds more powerful-ish than Super Saiyans, imo.

Other EU countries licenced the AB Groupe DB/Z/GT video/audio/script, like Hungary, Greece (I think) and couple of others.

I can't see the logic behind the big green dub. If it was done by AB group why not just rehire the Ocean cast to do them or at the very least a Blue water dub like they did before?

Don't take the AB Groupe English Dub seriously and instead for comedy and you'll love it.

Greece changed the ''Super Warriors'' to ''Super Saiyans'' after Majin Vegeta's sacrifice even though the whole Buu arc was based on the French dub.

Also, while France was using the name of the Roman God of Seas for Kaioshin (Neptune), Greece used the name of the Greek one (Poseidon) for the most part. They also corrected the lines where the French cast was mixing the names of Son Goku & Son Goten.
The French dub was indeed a mess for every country that got it.

Portuguese dub was very much based on the French script. They just added a bunch of Portuguese culture jokes on top of that.

If I remember well, Spain started using the name "Shin", but then switched to "Neptune". Those mistakes between Goku, Gohan and Goten (and once, Krilin and Chichi ) were also corrected. The term "Space Warriors" got switched to "Saiyans" in the final episodes of DBZ.

The scripts were also a mess:

DB 1-26: Japanese to Spanish, via Toei's literally translated English scripts (pretty good).
DB 27-153 and DBZ 1-105: Japanese to French (mess), French to Galician (fixed some things, added others), Galician to Spanish (almost the same script).
DBZ 106-160ish: Japanese to Spanish, also via English scripts (almost no mistakes).
DBZ 160ish-291: Japanese to French (mess), French to Spanish (a few mistakes corrected, others left as is).
DB and DBZ movies and specials: Japanese to Spanish via English, I think. There is dialogue which doesn't appear in the French or Portuguese dubs.
DBGT and special: not sure. Japanese to Spanish via English or Japanese to French, French translated to English, English to Spanish. Either way, the translator worked with English scripts and Japanese footage.

By the way, are the names "Kaio" or "Kaioshin" similar to the way the planet (or the God) Neptune is called in Japanese? I once read that King Kai was called Neptune in the Arabic dub, and that it had something to do with a mistranslation from the Japanese version. I don't think it's a coincidence that several dubs got to the same mistranslation.

The Japanese name for the planet Neptune is "Kaiousei", literally "The Sea King Planet". The "Kaiou" term in Dragonball means "World King", and the planet the Northern Kaiou lives on is likewise called "Kaiousei", "The World King Planet".

So if you don't have the kanji in front of you, it's a sorta-understandable mistake, especially if you don't know anything about the series from before.

Likewise. Funimation made the mistake of thinking Kaiou was the name "Kai" with the "ou" suffix for king, mistranslating it as "King Kai".

Kaio's planet was also called "Neptune" in the English version of the game Legendary Super Warriors, presumably because the script in the Japanese version was all in kana, so the translator(s) had no way of telling the two homophones apart.

I remember Toonami UK airing a DBZ movie marathon, it was the first time the DBZ films were airing here and I was pretty psyched. I turn on the TV and set up my VHS recorder only to hear the Big Green Dub. Now I happened to already have a VCD of one of the movies which was the Speedy Dub, so I just assumed all the movies were dubbed in the same way, it was only years later when I came here that I figured out about the different English language dubs of the movies.

I find the Big Green Dub hilarious though, it reminds me of Kung Pow if anyone has seen that. I couldn't pick my favourite scene they all make me crack up, I honestly cannot believe that it was a serious dub.

Big Green has a special charm to it and that at least most if not all the actors could at least speak intelligible English.

Speedy is just hilariously bad on all aspects. Almost no redeeming qualities. Still good for dub collectors.
