I think this has something to do with the way it is said such as Burdock is Japanese way. Viz used this as well but this was about one a panel or two right?

So then if that is true then that means...it would kind of weird to say Burdock all day! Just like in the tv special.

Bardock is in turn your best choice since nice and easy to say.

Any idea about how one would write burdock in katakana?

That would be "ba-dokku". Sometimes, it's "ba-dakku" (i.e. the way the "Dragon Ball" character's name is spelled in kana), but it's far less common, as far as I can tell. And in general, they'd use the Japanese word ("gobô") anyway.

(or kana, or whatever, I can never remember the names).

When in doubt, you can just say "kana".

There's not really any way to prove what he's saying. He's not saying that baadokku is correct and baadakku isn't - they're both possible transliterations of 'burdock', it's just that baadokku is more common.

I guarantee I'm less of an expert. But a quich Google of the two shows a vast difference in results.

1. 60,000 pages with バードック (baadoku) but without ドラゴンボール (doragon bōru).

2. 13,000 pages with バーダック (baadaku) but without ドラゴンボール (doragon bōru). And even then, the first result is a page about DragonBall

It would seem that baadokku is far more prevalent when we disregard Dragon Ball.
