I could scan the back of my package that says "Badack" on it, but I'm being too lazy. I think it says Janenpa on it too, but I don't remember.

I think this has something to do with the way it is said such as Burdock is Japanese way. Viz used this as well but this was about one a panel or two right?
So then if that is true then that means...it would kind of weird to say Burdock all day! Just like in the tv special.
Bardock is in turn your best choice since nice and easy to say.
Plus it is a pun what was it...a wooly plant. But I think it is actually a type of root! My source is www.myfavoritegames.com

Re: "Bardock" or "Burdock"
Do you have a source that shows it's spelled baadokku?Olivier Hague wrote:That would be "ba-dokku". Sometimes, it's "ba-dakku" (i.e. the way the "Dragon Ball" character's name is spelled in kana), but it's far less common, as far as I can tell. And in general, they'd use the Japanese word ("gobô") anyway.desirecampbell wrote:Any idea about how one would write burdock in katakana? When in doubt, you can just say "kana".(or kana, or whatever, I can never remember the names).

You can check with Google Japan.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Do you have a source that shows it's spelled baadokku?

That's a tad too vague for me. Can you actually produce some web pages that confirm what you say?Olivier Hague wrote:You can check with Google Japan.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Do you have a source that shows it's spelled baadokku?

Re: "Bardock" or "Burdock"
There's not really any way to prove what he's saying. He's not saying that baadokku is correct and baadakku isn't - they're both possible transliterations of 'burdock', it's just that baadokku is more common.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:That's a tad too vague for me. I guarantee I'm less of an expert. But a quich Google of the two shows a vast difference in results.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:But the thing I would like confirmed is that baadokku is used at all. It sounds odd to me, since baadakku seems to be closer to the pronounciation of the word anyway, but I'm no Japanese expert.
1. 60,000 pages with バードック (baadoku) but without ドラゴンボール (doragon bōru).
2. 13,000 pages with バーダック (baadaku) but without ドラゴンボール (doragon bōru). And even then, the first result is a page about DragonBall

It would seem that baadokku is far more prevalent when we disregard Dragon Ball.

So are the last four results on the first page.desirecampbell wrote:2. 13,000 pages with バーダック (baadaku) but without ドラゴンボール (doragon bōru). And even then, the first result is a page about DragonBall
And out of the five remaining ones, four are instances of some guy using "ba-dakku" as a username/nickname (possibly because of "Dragon Ball"?).

You should also try clicking on "images" after clicking on desirecampbell's links. You will see that バーダック (Bādakku) is mostly just DBZ characters and バードック (Bādokku) is some other stuff (One of them is a burdock root.).
