Who came first? Cashman or 4th Form Freeza?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Who came first? Cashman or 4th Form Freeza?

Post by Dayspring » Thu Jan 26, 2006 11:17 am

Cashman was published in October or November of 1991. I know the Freeza saga ranged for most of '91, so I was wondering if Cashman was designed first or if Freeza's final form was.

Cashman?

It's another short manga work by Toriyama. Basically it's a superhero comedy. Very funny and entertaining.

Here is a picture of Cashman, I don't know. I'd say Freeza came first cause I doubt he had anytime to do anything while he was working on the Freeza saga so probley after.

I always thought the cop whose body he took over, looked like a cross between Trunks and Yamucha.

Looks more like Cooler than Freeza to me. Maybe he was the inspiration for that since Toriyama designed him as well for movie 5.

He seems to be a compolation of Great Saiyaman (funny poses), #18 (asking for money), Coola (the look), and Vegeta ("Big Bang Attack").

If Cashman was designed before Coola, then he probably was used as a base for Coola.

According to the publication notes at the end of the story, as well as the comparison info found in daizenshuu 1 and 7, they came out at the same time.

4th form Freeza first appears in Chapter 304, "Birth of a Super Saiya-jin and Super Freeza!?". That chapter appeared in January of 1991 in Weekly Jump Issue #2. Cashman appeared in November of 1990 in V Jump Issue #12. So there you have it.

Now I've just got to figure out which of these came first: Chrono Trigger's Japanese release, or the first appearance of Frog in the Anoyoichi Budokai in Japan....
Battle High 2, starring Kyle Hebert as well as myself, has been released on Xbox 360, OUYA, PC, Linux, Mac, and Xbox One!

Probably Chrono Trigger. Frog was TOEI, not Toriyama.

Chrono Trigger was released in Japan by Square Enix on March 11, 1995 and on September 27, 1995 in the US. Frog (フーログ) appeared in DragonBall Z Episode 197 which aired in Japan on August 18, 1993. Just remember that Frog was filler material. :)

I know Frog in DBZ was filler, but I was figuring if CT came out first, they used Frog from there as inspiration. Or maybe Toriyama wanted them to put Frog in there, I don't know... kind of strange that both DBZ and Chrono Trigger have anthropomorphic frogs named simply Frog.

One of the fighters from the Other World Budokai that takes place following the fight with Cell, one of the competitors is a human-built frog creature, literally named Frog. He uses some technique to puff himself to gigantic proportions, but that turned out to be a disadvantage to him, as he was beaten. The creature that defeats him goes on to battle Goku in the semi-finals.

That's what I was thinking.

The other one looks like Vegeta and Yamcha merged. The picture there is quite small to tell though...

Now I realise that they are infact the same character.
