Things that make you think DragonBall

Don't know if there's already been a topic like this, but there are so many things in everyday life, on the internet, and even other anime that make me go - That's DragonBall!!

One time I was in the office and I wasn't able to make a deadline. My boss fired the most brutal Kamehame-ha at me.

I thought, "That was SO Dragonball."

Two instances made me think of Dragon Ball in Funimation's dub of "Shin-chan". The first was done purposely with a kid making a move going, "Kamehamehame-Bastard!"

The second was more due to a certain voice actress and my mind in the gutter at the time. Shin's mother was beating up her husband and yelled at him, "SAY MY NAME BITCH!" It was probably due to her being voiced by Cynthia Cranz (Chi-Chi), that a thought went through my mind, "I think I know how Gohan was conceived now."

I actually heard on the radio once about a guy who won a (4th of July, I think?) hot dog-eating contest in New York City. He ate somewhere between forty and fifty hot dogs within the time limit, and he was 5'7" and weighed 140-something (141, maybe?) pounds. Oh, and he was Asian, too.

If hearing about that guy doesn't automatically make me think of Goku, I don't know what does. :shock:

Mr. Announcer and Desire... that's why I couldn't help but try and make this thread. I can't watch a single thing on tv without finding a way to relate it to DragonBall. Have you people just sat down and thought, 'What would Goku have done?'. I swear the colour orange should just be renamed DragonBall.

Well, I gotta say when I ever see a slug I think of Namek. Because of that word (in japanese mind you) being based on that word. Once I wanted to put a cape and turban on a slug in our backyard. :lol:

The number '9000' now automatically makes me think of Vegeta crushing his scouter.

In anime, any of the infamous "Fight-transform-fight-transform-fight-big blast" formula of storylines makes me think of Dragonball Z, because of course, everyone wants to copy. :P

And the last fight scene in the 3rd Matrix movie made me think of DBZ... flying around and just bashing on eachother with huge explosions, made me want to believe all those fake movie posters for a DBZ movie.

Oh! And whenever I see little boy penis in manga. (The last instance, I recall, was in a volume of Love Hina) I always think back to the humble beginning of the Super-saiyajin... Just cheerful as can be in the breeze.

Oh that is so true.

The craptastic Smith Vs Neo fight in Matrix Revolutions makes me think of Goku vs Vegeta. Every time I see either Randy Savage or Hulk Hogan I think of Mr. Satan. Especially the dub version, you can tell they used those two as inspiration.

Naruto fans have always forcibly reminded me of DBZ fans. I also think of DB every time I see One Piece; the character design has that same unique, instantly recognizable look.

Oh, and Hiei and Genkai of Yu Yu Hakusho remind me of Vegeta and Master Roshi.

Hiei from Yuyu Hakusho, Sasuke from Naruto, Tao Ren(Len) from Shaman King, Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh!; they all scream Vegeta in their own cliched rights.

What makes me think DragonBall, as unsurprising as this may sound, the television show Smallville does many times. Examples of such moments being:

Clark never flies in the whole series (save for very rare Easter-egg moments) = Goku never flies in original DragonBall pre-final blow against Piccolo Junior.
Jor-El's early misinterpreted actions of getting Kal-El to "rule Earth" = Raditz' and Turles's ambitions of getting Kakarrot to concur Earth.
Chloe Sullivan, one of Clark's best friends = Near-exact resemblance of Erasa, Gohan's high-school friend and classmate.
A moment where Clark switches bodies with Lex Luthor's father, Lionel = Goku's body-switch with Ginyu.
In season 4, there's a big hunt-arc for 3 "Kryptonian Stones/Artifacts/Elements/Crystals" that are spread at distinct separate points around the world = DragonBall/Z/GT's very notable aspect of hunting for the 7 Dragonballs spread all over the world.
There's a body-separation incident where Lex is divided between a pure evil and pure good persona, where in theory if one dies, the other does as well, though they eventually remerge = Piccolo and Kami's dilemma.
A statement Clark once makes "I was born on Krypton, I was raised on Earth" = Mirroring Goku's statement to the Ginyu Force "I am a Saiyan who was raised on Earth".
Clark's one of very few flights in the series episode "Crusade" = Almost exactly mirroring Ultimate Gohan's dramatic flight to Buu and Gotenks after getting his deepest latent powers released.

For some people they remind them of #17 and Frieza. (heh heh heh)
