Funimation's GT DVDs

Post by Corson D. Burly » Sun Mar 16, 2008 5:26 am

I've been searching the ol' internets for the last couple of hours to find this information, but nothing seems to have it.

Can anyone tell me if the Funimation DVDs have the original Japanese eye-catches and themes? I know they have the original Japanese dub and BGM, but haven't heard anything about the eye-catches and themes. I'd like to avoid buying them if they do not have these things. It would be a shame if "Blue Velvet" or "Sabitsuita..." were excluded.

Anyway, thank you very much for any help you can give! It is much appreciated.

They do have the high-catches, and I think they have all of the themes as well. Pretty sure they have both "Blue Velvet" and "Sabitsuita" (the final ending theme, isn't it?).

Wow! Thanks for the speedy reply, Herms! Yeah, from what I remember, "Sabitsuita..." is the last theme. Though, it has been almost eight years since I've seen GT, so my memory may be a bit fuzzy. Ha!

Thanks again!

Except for low episode counts (usually four or five which isn't that bad compared to every one being three) FUNimation's GT DVDs are great.

They have all the intro animations, different endings, eye catches, and even next episode previews which their DBZ and DB releases lacked.

Basically it's got everything you could want.

There are some documented visual fuck-ups, but no worse than you'd expect from the UUEs.

So Funimation left the original Japanese BGM in the GT releases?

Umm... on the Japanese side, yes. There is currently no "Dub-with-JP-musical-score" option for DBGT.

Which absolutely sucks, because the music for the dub... It's not pretty. Aside from the ending and opener beat, which I think is pretty catchy, the music is absolutely awful. But don't worry, you'll have that option when they chop the top and bottom off, white out the lines, and claim that the only difference is that it looks better and has more side footage. But hey, that would be worth it just for the dub voices with Japanese music :) I'd get it.

That's great news, since I watch the show with subs now (thanks to the great folks at the Daizex Forums).

I don't know that it's "news" or anything ground-breaking; FUNimation's been including the Japanese track on every DVD they've released on their own since 2000.

Isn't weird how the worst DB Show got the best treatment? Not only did GT have a better dub, next episode previews, original credited intros and outros, and eyecatchers, but they also had good encoding! I have two GT DVDs, and the quality is so much better than the Z DVDs.

I was speaking of the Japanese BGM.

Eh? The DBGT disc don't have an 'English dub with original score' option, the only options are the 'English dub' and the original audio. Which is what Mike explained already.

I know. It was just a shock to me that they would include the japanese music with the original audio being as DBZ didn't have it at all.

Huh? The original Japanese audio on the DBZ DVD's did have the Japanese music, what are you talking about? Unless you're talking about Japanese music with English audio, in which case you're still wrong.

Thanks for the info, guys!

It's been YEARS since I bought anything Funimation was peddling, and wasn't sure if I should bother with GT (though I really want to have it on DVD). Looks like Funi will be getting a few bucks after all...

Oh snap? So the original DVDs(the 3 episode ones) did have the original music on them. Oops, so i'm wrong on that count. I apologize, my mistake.

I could be wrong, but in episode 65 of the podcast, the Japanese audio track on the season one boxset is discussed as being a solid, premixed track. I would assume that the same would hold true for all other releases. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Essentially what I mean is, when looking at the Japanese dialogue track, I was under the impression that FUNImation didn't have a choice for what music could be used.
