Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 20 - DB episode 86-90 (CURRENT WEEK)

As for Lunch, I believe that Toriyama just dropped the character altogether. He probably just didn't particularly care for her. Plus with Chichi's return it may have been one too many women to write in his mind. I don't want that to be true, but Toriyama's handling of female characters is godawful ...

Yeah, most likely in the form of a DBox upscale.

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

None of Geneon's shows went to YTV. All of them aired on G4 Canada That's not entirely true . Anyway, that reference was in regards to the three uncut Dragon Ball Z movies Geneon (then Pioneer) had Ocean dub. YTV aired those. Did they get them from Geneon? I don't know. I thought YTV aired the Toon...

Re: Where are these GT subs from?

They're modern gag subs.

In any case, while I could be wrong, I think the footage is from the Green Bricks (which take the raw Dragon Box GT footage and covers it with DNR, alongside things like missing NEPs... along with Japanese titles that only appear on streaming.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Physical media is probably going to be the Laserdisc to streaming video's VHS. For the average viewer streaming is good enough, but the niche for physical media won't die out until you can get 100GB flash drives super cheap and the slowest internet speed available Nationwide, if not globally, is 50 ...

I know this is a bit late, but I just found this alert during DBZ 188: https://i.imgur.com/hXYAXal.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SyMrJG5.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Qn79uD0.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Iy6s8ax.jpg Out of curiosity, what fansub release is that from? The quality looks decent by the standards of the...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

When they weren't cutting the intros completely, the UK broadcasters never tried to replace the intros/credits of Z or GT aside from occasionally replacing the OP/ED of ep 1-92 in post ep 108 reruns from Rock the Dragon to their Westwood counterparts. I guess the Blue Water Dragon Ball OP seemed too...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

The one with lyrics is the original. It's based off the French OP, but is a little longer. I guess the UK broadcasters thought it was too childish, so they replaced it with the dubstep one most of the time, though infrequent they would forget to do this and the other OP would play. I'm pretty sure t...

Re: What fans want VS real-life released products.

I'll be honest. When I saw the thread title, my first thought was stuff along the lines of "a level set quality release vs what we got in the 30th anniversary Blu-rays". Then again, seeing that you live in Spain (which of it's five dubs did you grow up with?) I imagine that what concerns y...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 16 - DB episodes 71-75 (CURRENT WEEK)

Was the Blue Water dub working off French translations? I know the Canadian only opening was a really really awkward English translation of the already cheesy and saccharine French opening but I thought that was the extent of it? I was under the impression they working off a combination of Funimati...

Re: Bootleg topic! Real vs fake

Sorry for bump, but bumped into this youtube video recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob2BGwjaU1k It appears to be a video showing off a Latino Spanish version of the 30th Anniversary Blu-ray sets. My hunch is that it's a bootleg, but it looks fairly well made. Can anybody confirm or deny whe...

Re: Dragon Ball Rewatch, Week 16 - DB episodes 71-75 (CURRENT WEEK)

“Bulma” goes wild scene in episode 8 that Robo mentioned was a good example of Funimation being able to use edited dialog for both versions since all they had to do was remove the scene of “Bulma” flashing Roshi and the scene still made sense. Actually, no . A lot of the dialogue is the same at fir...

Re: Blue brick vs singels

How were the singles interlaced? Is a simple IVTC not good enough to prevent issues like these? What would the best way to deinterlace the singles be? What about the GT singles vs the Green Bricks? Seeing as they're both interlaced, is one worse at being deinterlaced than the other (putting aside th...

Re: The Many English Dubs (Revised)

Wouldn't the airing of the Pioneer dubs of DBZ Movies 1-2 on YTV be the same edited versions that showed on US Toonami and were released on the Rock the Dragon collection, and the airing of DBZ Movie 3 be of the Saban dub?

Also, YTV aired the Funi dubs of the two Z specials and Lord Slug.

Re: Toriyama Reveals What Inspired Mr. Satan vs. Cell!!

And I have an uncle at Toei who told me that Toriyama did indeed say this. He also confirmed that Toriyama's favourite Dragon Ball character is Jiren, and he prefers the Funimation dub with the Faulconer score, over any other version; apparently it's a truer representation of his vision than anythi...

Toonami didn’t help with shit like this: https://youtu.be/s36szNpqix4 Wow, people weren't kidding when they said that Dragon Ball was advertized like a Muppet Babies esque spinoff instead of, you know, the beginning of the story . It's like it's trying to discourage people from watching. It makes m...
