Re: Dragon Ball Z on TV3 - Exclusive Bumpers

I remember these were posted somewhere, but I forgot where or when. The last pair had the same music the remastered eyecatches played from Season 3 to IIRC before the start of the Boo saga. edit: Ah, here it is. The first 20 or so Ginyu/Freeza episodes had one where it was silent with Dale Kelly say...

[The Westwood dub] mostly used music from video games like Monster Rancher and Mega Man
Well, you got that half right. The Mega Man stuff came from the cartoon, not any of the video games... least of all the 8 bit and 16 bit ones. I don't know what the situation with Monster Rancher is.

Re: Least favourite performances in your dub

My dub is Speedy🤣🤣🤣 What the hell? The main way your dub could be Speedy is if you grew up in Malaysia before the Malay dubs were created and broadcast. Even then, Speedy imported BLT DB Movie 1 and a large chunk of the Saban and Funi Z dubs after giving up on running the Z series like 12 episodes ...

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions

Z has rerecorded NEPs on Funi's streaming service? This is the first I've heard of that. IIRC, the Orange Bricks, Season Blu-rays, and 30th Anniversary Blu-rays have no NEPs, and the Funi DBox only has Japanese NEPs, even on the English language track. Also AFAIK the UUC Z redub never had NEPs.

Re: FUNimation's Big Green Moment XD!

Well then, I can confirm the equivalent Funi line is "All units to Gate 3! Emergency! Emergency!" The sub line appears to be "This is Gate 3! We've got a serious situation here!". And just to be on the safe side I also looked at the French line. I can't speak French, so I piped in the dialogue to Go...

Re: FUNimation's Big Green Moment XD!

I don't think it's intentional at all. At the very most, AB Groupe distributed the dub to the UK and Europe, provided the video and M/E masters to run over, and maybe in some instances also provided the French dub script (I mean a couple points shortly after King Piccolo's death the Nyoibo/Power Pol...

So the bootleg sourced the Dragon Box... or something else? If something else, I can't imagine what.

I wonder if Toei has any opinion on the fans that like the look of the Amazon JP Masters better and would have rather had them in a higher bitrate.

With Dragon Ball Kai, only the DVD's are cropped to 16:9.
That's only for the Japanese release. The French and German releases are 16:9 and available on Blu-ray as well as DVD. And of course, this all only applies to ep 1-98, as The Final Chapters was only done in 16:9 to begin with.

Re: Orange Bricks vs Blu-rays (2014) - Definitive Discussion

The Orange Bricks are a center crop. The Blu-rays apparently use an automated tilt and scan. Sometimes the result is better, sometimes the result is worse. I know you didn't include them in your comparison, but you should also include 16:9 Kai, which of the three clearly had the most work in trying ...

Re: Dragon Ball rewatch, week 4 - DB episodes 16-20

Honestly, that's one thing I would say the dubs did better than the subs; every now and then, for god-knows-what-reason, the subs leave a term in Japanese that just makes certain lines incomprehensible (such as "Kami-sama" instead of "God"). And they'd really lose nothing by translating it; Funi's ...

Bulma: You´re pretty strong for being so small. Bulma: Hey tell me, whats your name? Goku: I know! My Grandfather did train me! Goku: Oh, so my Grandfather has always called Son-Goku, and you? I like how even though at this point the German dub was completely reliant on the French scripts it didn't...

[*]Before its famous appearance in episode 28, the insert song Mezase Tenkaichi appears in episode 19, though only briefly. Interestingly, while Funimation cut the song from episode 28, they kept it in episode 19, and would later keep it when it showed up in the 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai. Meanwhile, ...

Spacetoon? Are you shitting me? Great! From the people who brought you no show dragons and Oozaru as separate beings comes another Macekre. Malaysia dub? The NTV7 one (as opposed to the Cartoon Network one that only did Kai ep 1-98... not to mention the infamous English language Speedy Video dub) I know this is off topic, but what is the quality of the dub like? How accurate are the scripts compared to the Japanese? Is the acting good? ...

Re: FUNi's SE and JPN BGM Broadcast quality?

Neither. Funi uses separate Music/Sound Effects masters. I imagine that they're better than the Dragon Boxes, but worse than the broadcast audio. In any case, the M/E masters are much closer to the broadcast audio than the optical Dragon Box audio.

I take it it's voicing over the Japanese, right? What's the base translation, Funi's dub?
