Though I don't exactly have the best ear for these things, the FUNi Dragon Box sample sounds somewhat less tinny, not to mention clearer than the season sets' version.

Wow. I...

A confirmation of the (Japanese) audio bitrate would be great, though—the quality on the orange brick sets was just atrocious.

We're only one episode in and I'm already dying to hear how the rest of the cast has stood the test of time (especially Horikawa, Nakao and Wakamoto).

Loved the new OP — wasn't wild about the ED. The animation for both was absolutely gorgeous, though.

Also: was it just me, or did Shigeru Chiba sound somewhat more gruff?

I love Shura-iro no Senshi, too! Awesome song.

Have yet to see an English translation myself - If I can cobble together a reasonable facsimile of one, I'll send it your way.

Did the Japanese audio track on anyone else's episode 172 (the first episode on disc two) have the same vaguely underwater sound as Head Cha-La ?

Edit:

Does anybody notice film damage on the left side of Episode 180?

I wouldn't've noticed had I not been looking for it, but yup, there it is ...

<snip> the people of Namek might have adopted a simple way of life without the aid of advanced technologies and science and material items (like how they hardly ever use the Dragonballs even though they are so easily acceptable). This can be compared to the Buddhist way of life <snip>.

Yup, it's a (rather bizarre  ) doujinshi. It's hard to spot, but I believe the title's actually underneath: "nami wa bimi naru tamentai" is my dubious romanization.

I'm disappointed to see that "Head Cha-La" still sounds like it came off a cassette that got ran over by multiple semis.

Jeez, not again ; I was dreading the possibility of that. :x UPS is probably routing my copy through Lower Slobovia as we speak.

Mine are sheer nostalgia picks: Detekoi Tobikiri ZENKAI Pawâ! (the imagery is just precious), I-KU-SA, Hikari no Tabi (the opening orchestration gives it an epic, sweeping feel) and Chôsenjô.

If I may, one question for those of you who've picked it up early: how's the Japanese audio track?

If I recall, Cha-La Head-Cha-La was muffled quite horribly throughout the entirety of the season five set, and there were a few noticeable dropouts. :?
