Insert songs in Dragon Ball Z.
Insert songs in Dragon Ball Z.
Is the part where...
*SPOILERS*
Gohan goes Super Saiyan 2
*END SPOILERS*
... the only part in Dragon Ball Z accompanied by an insert song? I hope not. Insert songs were very frequent in the original series, almost to the point of being superflous (I might be mistaken, but I swear I remember one instance where the exact same song was played two episodes in a row - 29 and 30 or thereabouts). It would make the sequel seem much drier to not have that habit upheld.

There are at least three in Dragon Ball, which Kanzentai documents here. As for Z, there's one in the episode about the history of Planet Vegeta and one during a flash-back Trunks has. I can't remember their names offhand, or if there were any others.
Also, I think you can pretty much go without spoiler warnings here. Practically everyone here knows the major points of the story.

Three other Dragon Ball songs come to mind. Yamucha's theme song (episode 88), Red Ribbon Army (episode 65 or 66), Revive Upa's Dad Celebration Anthem (Episode 78). The original series is ripe with insert songs. I'm glad to hear that there's at least two others, though. I like insert songs. I wish other series would use them with the frequency Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon do.Herms wrote:There are at least three in Dragon Ball, which Kanzentai documents here. My word, desire. You must use a worse resolution than my 1024x768.

As far as I know, there were 4 insert-songs in the DBZ TV-series, and 3 in the movies/TV-specials:
"Shura-iro no Senshi" when Kaio told Goku the history of Planet Vegeta
"Battle Points Unlimited" when Trunks killed Freeza (Not really a song, but it's apparently considered an insert-song anyway.)
"Mind Power... Ki" when Trunks was having a flashback to his own past, shortly before Cell appared.
"Unmei no Hi ~ Tamashii VS Tamashii" when Gohan turned Super Saiyan 2 for the first time.
"Solid State Scouter" played twice in the Bardock-special, though again, that's not technically a song.
And then there's "Tenkaichi Gohan" in movie 1 and "Piccolo-san Daisuki" in movie 2.

Yeah, I guess, but I didn't count the movies and TV-specials in there. Just the normal episodes.Adamant wrote:If that counts, then Solid State Scouter counts too.Vegard Aune wrote: One when Trunks killed Freeza (Not really a song, but it's apparently considered an insert-song anyway.)
Also, Tenkaichi Gohan and Piccolo-san Daisuki from the two first movies, if we're counting those.
*Goes back to add those*

Wow. Would I be right in assuming that there are times during the series that maybe deserved (or just needed) an insert song? Like when Vegeta fights Cell after he shoots Trunks? Or when Vegeta sacrifices himself against Buu? Or when Goku tells everyone at Kami's lookout that Gohan and Vegeta are dead? And ofcourse, an insert song at the end of the series perhaps?VegettoEX wrote:In the DBZ TV series? Yes.Kid Trunks wrote:Wait a second. There are many more moments than what I listed above (obviously). I don't know if all of those should have had an insert song, but some of them atleast.

What's funnier about that is that DB pretty much only ever had the one vocal album, and at least half the songs on it were used in the series.Castor Troy wrote:With the 10 million image songs on the DBZ cds, I can't believe there were only 4 insert songs in the entire series.
The only ones left in the dub were Moeru Heart de in episode 65, Dragon Ball Densetsu in episode 76, Aoki Tabibitotachi in episode 78, and Mezase Tenkaichi in episode 86. And most of those were drowned out by added dub narration. Oh, and Mezase Tenkaichi in 19, but that episode only had the instrumental intro to it anyway, with no vocals.Raki wrote:Are the insert songs in Dragonball in the dub, or are they in the original audio only?
Obviously there's some inconsistency about Mezase and Densetsu, since they left them in in some episodes, but cut them from others. (They cut out Mezase again even after they had already left it in once.) So it can't possibly be a rights issue. Some people have suggested it might have to do with the songs being gone on Toei's dialogue-free "international" audio masters, but other dubs have apparently left some of those songs in that FUNi cut from their dub, so that probably isn't it either.
