I don't know. I've been on member for some time now and if I see someone who has been active for a long or has a lot of posts, I take what they say more seriously. I figure that if they have been making a lot of posts and are still here they must be doing something right. This doesn't mean, however, they I completely disregard the new people.
Don't you think that's a bit unfair to judge like that. This is a bad example, but what if Akira Toriyama suddenly found this site and started posting. You would disregard his opinoins even though he knows more than any of us about dragonball.
If something was brought up in a topic and I wasn't familiar with the idea being presented or it's not something I previously understood to be true, if it comes from a "prominent" member I tend to believe more. If it came from someone with only a dozen posts I will question if only because I consider Daizex to be THE only trustworthy source of Dragonball information. Mr. EX runs a tight operation and false info gets corrected quickly. And it's usually by the people who have been here for a really long time.

There's only one other Dragonball related site that I go to and it's only because I found them before I found this site. And I find myself going less and less because it's too loose of a site and, for the most part, I've been spoiled by the way Daizex works.

It is unfair, but everyone will do it, whether they realize it or not. It's one of very few pieces of information on which to judge the poster. And without some sort of indicator of past involvement there's a possibility of easy impersonation (I've seen that happen a few times elsewhere, once to a poster from here). I've always liked the 'join date' that accompanies the post count, for this purpose.

So then that being said, at which point would you consider somebody's opinoin to be reasonable or valid?

For me, there's anyone who has been a member for more than two years or averages about 2 posts a day.

Basically once you make the "Beyond Newbie" rank I start taking you more seriously. Unless you give me a reason not to trust you I will but if it come to some new person or a regular, I'm sticking with the regular (unless it's a opinion/personal taste issue).

What I meant was, people initially judge others based on whatever information they can gather. On a forum of this nature there are few details one can gather quickly, and post count is something that many people will weigh heavily.

Think of it this way, you go to a meeting of some kind (say, a Dragon Ball fanclub meeting) and being new you have no idea who is a great source of information and who's just a crazy fanboy. If there was some indication (like a badge, or lapel pin, or if they announced their name and how many meetings they've attended before being allowed to speak) of having been there longer, or having been more active you could infer that that person is A. dedicated, B. part of the community long enough to know the various ins and outs of the topic, and C. isn't likely to do or say anything crazy enough to get them kicked out of the community. All these things are huge indicators of trustworthiness, but they aren't foolproof - someone who attends a lot of meetings (high post count) isn't necessarily dedicated, community-oriented, or knowledgeable - and all these qualities can easily be present in new members.

Again, it's just human nature to make first impressions - and on a forum, post count usually gets weighed the heaviest.

-edit-
Aw fuck. Two other members quickly understood you were talking about 'how long should a poster be a member before you trust him' and I thought you were saying I relied on post counts.

This proves my point more, because one member (5th highest poster) didn't grasp the question while two other members (57th place, and 287th place) quickly and easily answered. I am right in my wrongness! :D

I have been a member for five days yet my post count per day is 10, does that make me trust worthy? Maybe the time thing but definately not the post count should be a factor.

Your current post count says 90 and I haven't come across anything that you've posted to make me doubt you.

The main reason I trust the post count is because if you're a lousy poster and is always give bad info and stuff, I would trust that someone here would correct you or EX would have a "talk" with you or something. If you're really bad, I would think something would happen to you and you won't be posting anymore.

I guess your right, I was just thinking what if someone had a really high post count yet joined like yesterday. You would probably suspect a lot of spam or they are just generally posting anything to get a high post count.

You can trust a site like this to weed out the baddies. Now go to a site like Gamefaqs' forums and you have to be active for a few months to figure people out.

It also comes up every once and a while about the site being stictly Dragonball and it has to be reminded about what happens with those type of sites.

Very interesting post. I also think that there should be an "OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!" above your name if someone ever reaches 9001 posts.

Jerseymilk would probably be the first one to reach over 9,000 comments, since she currently is the only one with over 5,000 and shows no signs of slowing down.

I wonder how many days it would take at her pace to get to 9000 posts.

Jersymilk
Current Posts: 5,186
Posts to go until 9,000: 3,814
Average number of posts per day: 3.36

3,814/3.36=1,149 (ish)

So about 1,149 days, assuming she doesn’t significantly slow down or speed up her average post rate. So a little over 3 years. It will take her 4 years to reach “Decrepit Hermit” status.

With Vegetto EX, at his current number of posts and post rate, it will take him about 4 years to reach 9,000 posts. Same for Desirecampbell.

At your current rate of 50 posts per day (!!!), it will only take you a little over half a year to reach 10,000 posts and “Decrepit Hermit” status. Of course, you probably won’t keep your current post rate up for that long.

For me, with an average daily post rate of 0.39 posts a day, it will take me 66 years and 9 months to reach 10,000 posts. But I’m not in any real hurry.

He would be Greg Werner of The Grand Line website.
