I heard the numbers matched. Where did you hear otherwise?Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Yeah, but they've already announced the number of color pages. The ad for these that ran in Viz's Shonen Jump awhile back seems to indicate that they won't be. The Kenshin VIZBIG didn't have all the color pages in color.

For Dragon Ball: "Over 50 pages in color" would mean anywhere from 51-59 color pages. Since these VIZBIG volumes are 3-in-1 volumes, this one ends with volume 3 of the tankôbon (chapter 36, Kuririn vs. Bacterian).
Looking through the Kanzenban volumes, there are 102 color pages in the first 36 chapters, including title pages.
For Dragon Ball Z: "Over 30 pages in color" would mean anywhere from 31-39 pages. "Dragon Ball Z" starts on chapter 195, or "DBZ 01" in VIZ's numbering system, and the third volume ends on chapter 217, or "DBZ 23" in VIZ's numbering system.
And it looks like there are exactly 30 color pages for those three volumes. So Dragon Ball Z is getting all of its color pages.
There was only two color chapters for those three "DBZ" tankôbon, which is unusually low, I think, so it might just be that they were able to fit all of the color in this time. But who knows?

I think you're forgetting chapter 218, which I'm pretty sure is at the very end of tankoubon 18. That would leave the total at 45 color pages for the chapters in DBZ VIZBIG vol.1. So "over 30" color pages would leave between 6 to 15 color pages still in grey scale, if interpreted literally. But hopefully Viz isn't sticking that close to what it says in the ad and will just include them all.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:For Dragon Ball Z: "Over 30 pages in color" would mean anywhere from 31-39 pages. Whoops, I see what I did wrong. I counted the color pages for tankôbon 17 and 18 only; I forgot 19.Herms wrote:I think you're forgetting chapter 218, which I'm pretty sure is at the very end of tankoubon 18. So, to revise my original post:
For Dragon Ball Z: "Over 30 pages in color" would mean anywhere from 31-39 pages. "Dragon Ball Z" starts on chapter 195, or "DBZ 01" in VIZ's numbering system, and the third volume ends on chapter 228, or "DBZ 34" in VIZ's numbering system.
And it looks like there are exactly 45 color pages for those three volumes.
Yeah, so that's another imperfect product from VIZ!

I'm cool with Herc, but not Vegerot. Herc is fine because I feel a certain nostalgia for his name; plus, the dub refers to him as "Hercule Satan" in the uncut version of one of the movies.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Hey, so I just got the Viz Big Edition of Dragonball, and I think they kept it censored in some places in case anyone is wondering. Goku's nude scenes are kept uncut for the whole volume, but if I'm not mistaken chapter 9 I'm pretty sure they added bubbles to Bulma in the shower when Yamcha is spying on her. I know gripes over Viz censoring have been voiced on these boards before, but it is a damn shame that these later releases are censored while the initial releases by Viz way back when were completely untouched.

Can we get some scans of the bath scene? From both the VizBig and the old censored single?
For, um, academia. Yeah, that's it.

It seems like the only reasonable purchase that we won't get screwed on.The Time Traveller wrote:Fuck this, I'm getting it from Japan.
It's manga, We buy it for the pretty pictures not groundbreaking dialogue.shotkeeper wrote:You can read Japanese?
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Almost, I read Yotsubato and other things in Japanese, I can't read kanji though, which is good enough really since they spell it out in manga like this. The good thing is that the books are dirt cheap, unlike the DVDs.shotkeeper wrote:You can read Japanese?
Also I have Azumanga Risaikuru which I can't actually read because they don't spell out the Kanji, but I just love the Tenchimuyou and Pretty Sammy art.
I can't speak Japanese though, unless I'm repeating it. I have ADS so Its the same for everything really.
Also Dragonball is mostly Fighting and flashy imagery so you don't have to be worried with understanding what they're saying.
I'm tight on money now anyway so I won't get the manga just yet, I want to get more and more of Funimation's awesome new DVDs.
I'm not even gonna get One Piece from Viz now, everything else, except from Pokemon seems alright.
Price and Content-wise, buying from Japan seems like the better option.

*Checks his horribly translated, yet uncensored norwegian manga*GotenZ1 wrote:but if I'm not mistaken chapter 9 I'm pretty sure they added bubbles to Bulma in the shower when Yamcha is spying on her.
That seems like an edit to me. The only bubbles that were there originally were in her hair. So, they edited Bulma's shower-scene, but left all the shots of naked Goku alone? DOUBLE-STANDARDS! The only logical explaination I can think of is that the Bulma-scene was much more detailed. Either that, or they figured that most of the people who were gonna buy this were boys, and we all know that the anatomy of the opposite sex is EXTREMELY TRAUMATIC for children, right? (In case you couldn't tell, that last part was sarcastic.)
