So, what happened to this idea? Is it not gonna happen? This thread just died. I really like this idea. Don't just toss it aside, give it a chance.

Re: Thinking About Starting a Fansite
Oh! Right. Well, I decided that anything I might want to contribute to the site could very well just be posted on a blog. And, so, I started a blog instead. It isn't a Dragon Ball fansite, but I'll be writing a lot about Dragon Ball (not news updates, necessarily, but maybe reviews and opinions). I'm still coming up with content, so I haven't gone public yet. But once I have something to share, I might put a link in my signature. If anybody else wants to launch a fansite and they want some dedicated well-versed help, I'm your man.

Re: Thinking About Starting a Fansite
Just putting out some feelers here, would anyone be interested in that 'community of blogs' idea a few posts back?
Would anyone be interested in such a thing existing, even? Any thoughts at all?desirecampbell wrote:I think a great idea would be to set up a multi-user blog community. Let everyone join and write whatever they want, and promote the best stuff to the front-page. (for example, see D-Toid).
-edit, seeing Godo's list, I think an easier route would be to install a multi-user CMS (I know Wordpress 3 has multi-user built in, earlier versions need some tweaking) and set yourself as admin (well, leave 'admin' alone and make yourself another account with full access). Set user registration to allow posting on their sub-blog, and promote the best stuff (just copy-paste to the main-blog, really) the users create to the main site's front-page.
This way, you don't have to worry about who to choose to give access to, or having enough people to write enough content. Just let everyone write whatever they want and promote the best stuff.

The idea sounds good to me, not going to lie, I'd probably never contribute to it, but I would definitely follow it and maybe make the odd comment.

What kinds of things would be posted on the blog? Are we talking factual articles? Opinion pieces (In universe? out?)? Fanfic?

Re: Thinking About Starting a Fansite
My idea is basically this: There is a main site/blog that can post it's own news/stories/articles/fanfics but would also feature posts from other users, much like VegettoEX's 'editorials' or a print news papers letters to the editor - except on the main page. But instead of these fans emailing in articles or linking to another blog, they can have their own separate blog under the main site's banner. So anyone who wants to write anything about Dragon Ball can, and if something seems interesting or popular or whatever, it can be featured to a larger audience on the main site.
Like this: Innagadadavida signs up and gets her own blog at whatever.com/innagadadavida and makes some posts. That second one there is really interesting, I think others would really like it.

Bam! Featured on the main site's front page.
(This is basically how Destructoid's Community Blogs work. If anyone is familiar with that.)

I'd like to keep as few restrictions on that as possible for two reasons: one, I want as many people contributing as much as they can. Everyone gets their own blog. It's theirs, I want to give as much freedom as possible. If quality dips because of this and this post or that post isn't awesome, that's okay - it doesn't always have to be great, not every thing needs to be front-page material. And two, actually policing such restrictions would be really difficult. Obvious restrictions like being Dragon Ball related should be obvious, but as long it's not patently illegal or offensive I can't see it getting removed. Of course I'd like to use daizex-grammar-rules (but again I can't see me caring unless it's in comments).Innagadadavida wrote:What kinds of things would be posted on the blog? Re: Thinking About Starting a Fansite
Well, that sounds like a super exciting idea. That would be really cool. I'd even be down for donating to the ring leader for hosting. I can help with CSS and design for the front page too. Is there a service that does this automatically, or are there people out there who have the ability and are willing to code something like this?
Also, I'm a dude. I think maybe the "A" at the end of my username might have thrown you off. At least, I hope that's what it was.

I don't mean to necro-post, but I was listening to the last podcast and remembered this thread. I think it's cool that you want to include content about the different dubs, and if you need anything related to the FUNi dub, I'm your guy.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Y'know you should be a contributor to the DBZ wiki. Since they focus on the dub and you're pretty much an expert on it you could do a lot of good there. Y'know clear up false information, add episode summaries and trivia etc.jjgp1112 wrote:I don't mean to necro-post, but I was listening to the last podcast and remembered this thread. You can't expect the man to work miracles. We need to take the DB Wiki behind the barn and put an end to its misery. There is no correcting that mess.

Y'know I heard the administrator there is an half-assed person and any changes that anyone make are completely revert back.Blue wrote:Y'know you should be a contributor to the DBZ wiki. Wow there is no need to mock my post at all, I said absolutely nothing to offend you.Goku100xKamehameha wrote: Y'know I heard the administrator there is a half-assed person and any changes that anyone make are completely revert back.
I'm inclined to agree with you really, but it's not very likely to happen. A slightly more accurate wiki is better then nothing.Innagadadavida wrote:You can't expect the man to work miracles. We need to take the DB Wiki behind the barn and put an end to its misery. There is no correcting that mess.

You're miss understanding what he was saying because he's not very good at English. He was talking about the admin for DB Wiki. Who does, in fact, revert any changes that he doesn't agree with. Factual or not.Blue wrote:Wow there is no need to mock my post at all, I said absolutely nothing to offend you.

Re: Thinking About Starting a Fansite
I think a well-written, accurate site dedicated to the Funi dub would be a good way of showing the people at the DB wikia what it is they're doing wrong.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?
Sometimes, I tweet things
We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

Ah, thank you. I'm usually pretty good at reading his posts too. I'll chalk it up to me being kinda exhausted. Sorry about that 100x.Innagadadavida wrote:You're miss understanding what he was saying because he's not very good at English. He was talking about the admin for DB Wiki. Re: Thinking About Starting a Fansite
I actually did try to correct a few pages on the Wiki before, about a year ago, but they were eventually reverted
