The Dragon Ball Z 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition is the first complete high-definition remaster of the Dragon Ball Z anime in the original 4:3 aspect ratio. It was produced by Funimation six years following their release of their 16:9 Blu-rays (2013), which was itself the first complete high-definition remaster of the series.[a] The special features are recycled from the 2013 Blu-rays with the exception of "Celebrities Talk: 30 Years of Dragon Ball Z".
On 02 March 2019, Funimation and Toei Animation plans to release Dragon Ball Z on Blu-ray for its 30th anniversary.[1][2] The campaign originally called for 2,500 commitments before the Blu-rays could be produced,[3] but that was adjusted to 3,000 commitments ten days later.[4] A FAQ was added to the website, clarifying that the maximum number of Collector's Editions they could produce was 6,000 and that orders would ship "before the holidays". The 30th Anniversary 4:3 remaster was subsequently re-released in individual seasons between 03 November 2020 and 02 March 2021 in the United States and later in the United Kingdom and Australia. The special features from Disc 5 of Season 9 were omitted in this re-release, making "Celebrities Talk: 30 Years of Dragon Ball Z" exclusive to the Collector's Edition.
