The Dragon Ball Season DVDs are Funimation's digitally remastered release of the Dragon Ball TV series. These "season" sets are colloquially known as the "Blue Bricks"; they were released in North America between 15 September 2009 and 27 July 2010. The original Japanese anime is divided into arcs rather than seasons.
Previous to this release, the first thirteen episodes of Dragon Ball were not available subtitled in North America (Region 1), nor was the 2001 English dub of those episodes. They had been released in Australia in 2004, but Funimation's contract with Trimark for the release of the 1995 edited dub of those episodes prevented them from releasing the unedited episodes in the United States until the contract expired. The new release was formally announced at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, California on 04 July 2009.[1]
