Hero Profiles

At the dawn of the Dragon Ball saga, Goku was just a bushy-tailed little boy with an appetite for adventure. Now, as humanity faces the greatest threat in its storied history, the boy-warrior completes his transition into a man to be reckoned with!

When last we saw Goku, he was battered and beaten and basking in the glow of his brutal victory over Piccolo. Little did he know, the monster had one more surprise in store for the unsuspecting people of Earth: a villainous offspring born into this world to avenge the death of his father! Piccolo Jr. is mean, green and determined to destroy Goku at the upcoming World Martial Arts Tournament. The epic battle looming on the horizon will subject Goku to unfathomable physical punishment and push our world to the brink of destruction.

Before the tournament begins, Goku must attend to unfinished business. The Shenlong Eternal Dragon is dead, and without him, the Dragon Balls are powerless to resurrect Krillin, Master Roshi, and the rest of the brave warriors who tried to stop King Piccolo's evil rampage. To revive Shenron, Goku seeks out Kami: the god-like guardian of Earth and creator of the Dragon Balls. Kami informs Goku of Piccolo Junior's [sic] heinous plot for vengeance, so our hero agrees to spend three years honing his skills under Kami and Mr. Popo. Goku may think he's seen it all when it comes to training regimens, but he's never experienced the electrifying jolt of time travel, weighted suits, mind-clearing meditation, and the permanent loss of his tail!

Should Goku manage to survive Kami's training, his own puberty, the World Martial Arts Tournament, and his bone-crushing battle with Junior, an even greater adventure lies ahead. This next chapter of Goku's story may not involve monsters, but the sound of wedding bells can be just as frightening!

Kami, the Guardian of Earth and the creator of Shenron, is a key figure in the Dragon Ball universe. Without his power, the seven wish-granting orbs would not exist, and Earth would be a far less exciting place. In the final chapter of the Dragon Ball saga, Goku seeks Kami's help in restoring Shenron and resurrecting those who lost their lives in the battle with King Piccolo. Goku mistakenly attacks Kami upon their first meeting due to the latter's striking resemblance to Piccolo, but he eventually calms down enough to listen to the guardian's explanation for the similarities. Long ago, Kami extracted the violent impulses and selfish desires from his own soul and fashioned them into a separate entity. King Piccolo was born of that darker side of Kami's nature, and the two beings remain forever linked. Kami and Piccolo share a lifeline, and if one of them dies - so does the other. (This knowledge causes Goku great distress during his fight with Junior.)

Although he originally arrives at Kami's Lookout on a mission to revive his fallen friends, Goku's stay is prolonged after he learns of the existence of Piccolo Junior. Kami makes the young warrior promise to stay and train for three years to prepare for his destined showdown with Junior at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Never one to back down from a challenge, Goku willingly signs on for what will be the most arduous training of his life.

The majority of Goku's training is conducted by Mr. Popo, the groundskeeper of Kami's Lookout. Mr. Popo may not look intimidating, but his skills as a martial artist are far beyond even those of Roshi or Korin. During Goku's three year stay at the Lookout, Mr. Popo gives the boy a crash course in time travel, dodging lightning bolts, listening with his mind, and sensing the changes in the environment around him. Popo boosts the punching power of his eager student through unusual techniques such as brutal games of hide and seek, wearing weighted clothes, and pitting Goku against a lethal, mirror-image of himself! And in one of the more painful aspects of the training, Mr. Popo permanently removes Goku's tail, essentially eliminating his only weakness. Although frustrated at first, Goku quickly grows fond of Popo and devotes himself to training as hard as he can.

The joint efforts of Kami and Mr. Popo ensure that Goku is ready to rumble when he arrives at the tournment [sic] for a final showdown with his monstrous counterpart.

The Ox-King is a gentle giant and a doting father who wants nothing but the best for his daughter Chi-Chi. Long ago, he trained with Gohan and Master Roshi, but these days, he's better known for getting emotional while planning his daughter's wedding - or being trapped by magical flames threatening to engulf his kingdom.

As the flames burn hotter and higher, the Ox-King risks his life to save the heirloom wedding dress he's long dreamt of passing down from his beloved wife to his feisty daughter.

When audiences last saw Chi-chi, she was a little girl with a big crush on Goku. The start of the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament finds her transformed into a fully-developed female warrior with formidable fighting skills. Her dream is to finally make Goku keep the matrimonial promise he made to her so long ago, but first, she wants to find out if he even remembers her name! If he doesn't, he'll have to defeat her on the tournament's main stage to learn her true identity.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Goku and Chi-Chi visit her father, the Ox-King, to share the joyous news of their looming nuptials. The gentle giant is ecstatic, but the wedding preparations are soon interrupted by an uncontrollable fire! To save her father, Chi-Chi and Goku embark upon a perilous quest to locate the magical Bansho Fan and extinguish the flames threatening to destroy the Ox-King's kingdom - and his daughter's wedding dress

Villain-turned-hero Tien Shinhan earned the title of champion at the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament by virtue of his spectacular last-second victory over Goku. In what was truly a fight for the ages, the two fierce warriors fought determinedly until the ring itself was destroyed and their respective powers were completely exhausted. Ultimately, Tien turned his back on a career of evil in favor of fighting side by side with Goku as they risked everything to free humanity from the clutches of King Piccolo.

Tien already ranks among the greatest fighters on the planet, but he refuses to bask in the glow of past accomplishments. To prepare for the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, he subjected himself to a grueling training regimen under the supervision of Master Korin. Tien's dream is to be regarded as the best of the best, but two formidable obstacles stand in his way: Cyborg Tao and Goku! If Tien can survive a brutal grudge match with his former teacher, he'll get a chance to test his mettle against Goku in the rematch of all rematches!

Chiaotzu is Tien Shinhan's lifelong training partner and constant companion. Originally, he was a student of the nefarious Master Shen, but he followed Tien's example and spurned the teachings of the Crane Master in favor of Master Roshi's sage tutelage.

As the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament approaches, Chiaotzu and his friends hone their skills under the keen eye of Master Korin. Chiaotzu then uses his telekinetic powers to "fix" the tournament's preliminary round so none of the Turtle Students are pitted against each other. Unfortunately, the pale-faced fighter exits the competition much earlier than expected after suffering a savage beating at the mechanized hands of Cyborg Tao!

Enemy Profiles

The mysterious fighter known as Hero is the enigma of the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament. Despite looking like a barber who wandered haphazardly out of the crwod and onto the stage, Hero manages to defeat powerful fighters such as Yajirobe and Yamcha on his way to a showdown with Junior! Though his victories often appear accidental, there is no denying Hero's meteoric rise to the top of the martial artist rankings! All that remains to be seen is whether or not Hero will live up to his name - or prove to be just another bad seed in the Dragon Ball universe! Whatever the case, his family should certainly be proud of his performance!

While alive, Tao terrorized innocent citizens as a killer-for-hire. His work for the Red Ribbon Army led to a showdown with Goku, where the mercenary's underhanded tactics brought about the destruction of his own human form. Long thought to be dead, Tao chose the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament as the stage for his robotic resurrection.

Cyborg Tao rivals his mortal counterpart in terms of cruelty, but he won't be defeated as easily as the inferior flesh and bone version. He is a violent madman with only one reason for existing: revenge! Tao wants to make Goku pay for blowing up his body, and he won't rest until he takes Tien Shinhan to task for betraying Master Shen!

The leaders of the free world breathed a heavy sigh of relief after Goku forever silenced the horrifying invader known as King Piccolo, but it appears they let their guard down too soon! Literally seconds before he died, Piccolo wretched forth a putrid offspring born unto this world to avenge his father's death. Piccolo Jr. is younger, faster, stronger, and frighteningly more violent than his father. His only desire is to destroy Goku at the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament.

To prepare for this big fight, Piccolo Jr. walked the Earth on a quest to increase his strength and skill by terrorizing anyone unfortunate enough to cross his path. He arrived at the tournament a green, mean, fighting machine hungry for vengeance! Competing under the alias "Junior," the monster annihilated the competition on his way to an epic final battle against the man who murdered his father. Goku versus Junior is destined to be remembered as one of the greatest fights in the history of hand-to-hand combat. The winner will be crowned the most powerful marital [sic] artist on the planet, and the loser will never be heard from again - or will he?

Wherever signs of trouble appear on the Dragon Ball landscape, it's a good bet that Emperor Pilaf and his bumbling sidekicks Mai and Shu are close by. Pilaf and his minions rear their inept heads once again as they race to acquire the magical Bansho Fan before Goku can get his hands on it. The little blue emperor without a kingdom even goes so far as to kidnap Chi-Chi in an attempt to trade her for the priceless eggs of a mythical endangered species! As usual, the wannabe monarch quickly finds out that tangling with Goku is a surefire way to get burned - especially when you mess with his bride-to-be!

When the Bansho Fan proves incapable of extinguishing the flames threatening to destroy the Ox-King's castle, Fortuneteller Baba speculates that the fire is a product of the Magical Furnace. Goku then embarks upon a journey to seek counsel with Annin, the keeper of the furnace and guardian of the border between the realm of the living and Other World Upon his arrival, Goku is surprised to find his grandpa, Gohan, serving as Annin's assistant. This happy revelation quickly loses its luster when Gohan and Annin refuse to extinguish the magical furnace for fear of dark spirits invading the living world during the two hundred years it would take to reignite the flames. Goku's only remaining option is risk [sic]] his life by physically venturing into the mystic blaze to repair any holes in the bottom of the furnace. By doing so, Goku will be able to save the Ox-King from certain death by incineration. Luckily for them both, Goku and Chi-Chi just so happened to have collected the special ingredients needed to patch any holes during their previous journeys.
