Dan's insistence on pronouncing it "Freetza"
In podcast episode (#), [[Yajirobe]] is coined as the "ass-eating samurai" (referring to a scene while training up at God's palace during the Saiyan arc) and tends to be introduced and referred to exclusively as such from this point forward.

Following his initial appearance and picking up steam during the Freeza arc, Gerstmann and Ryckert regularly impersonate [[Chris Sabat]]'s [[Vegeta]] performance from the English dub, adlibbing dialog with observational humor that would generally be too obscene for dialog within the show-proper. Fans often post mash-ups editing the podcast's audio with footage from the series. [[Yamcha]] is handled in much the same way, increasingly so as the character's luck and relevance diminishes over the course of the story.

Following the launch of Dragon Ball FighterZ, enjoying the game and its cast of characters, and reflecting on years of covering video games where "the overwhelming majority" of Dragon Ball games were considered to be "absolute trash"[1], Giant Bomb editors Jeff Gerstmann and Dan Ryckert began watching the series by way of Dragon Ball Kai. Following social media postings of Amazon orders[2], Gerstmann remarked on the podcast's debut episode, "...after I watched the first few, I was like, I gotta talk about this to someone, and then it turned out you were kinda going down the same road... and here we are."[3] The two launched the podcast All Systems Goku on 05 February 2018 as a side-project to review Dragon Ball Kai.

All Systems Goku is released weekly on Mondays. The initial two podcast episodes covered three episodes of Kai; each subsequent podcast episode has covered five episodes of the television series. The podcast was launched through the "Giant Bomb Presents" feed before transitioning into its own separate distribution feed.

The show's name is a play on the idiom "all systems go."

Production

Gerstmann and Ryckert record their own separate audio tracks (in California and New York, respectively); the local audio recordings are muxed together for the final product. Skype backups are recorded and used when necessary, such as in the podcast's third episode.

The original cover artwork of the text "All Systems Goku" (what font was it?) was thrown together by Gerstmann at the last minute as a requirement for feed submission and validation. The current artwork was submitted by a fan (do we ever hear who it is?) and was used beginning with the fifth episode. Within the ID3 tags, episodes 1 and 2 feature a screen of Son Goku, episode three features a screen of Gregory, and episode 4 features the first formal cover artwork.

Gerstmann and Ryckert watch FUNimation's English dub via the Dragon Ball Z Kai Blu-ray season sets. The occasional nod is given to the original Japanese audio track (cite second podcast episode and Kaio's phone ring).

Structure

Each podcast episode typically begins with a brief recap of where the previous coverage left off. Gerstmann and Ryckert proceed to simultaneously recap and directly comment on episodes one by one, with commentary coming naturally through the course of conversation, as well as from personal notes written down prior to recording. Predictions about forthcoming content, rhetorical questions over missed content (either in the original Dragon Ball television series or edited out of the Dragon Ball Kai version), and sideline comparisons to professional wrestling stories comprise the analysis. Each episode ends with an announcement of the next batch of episodes to be covered and the expected release for the next podcast, generally set for the following week.

Particulars

Gerstmann and Ryckert regularly refer to their own personal notes taken during viewing sessions. These notes are occasionally shared on their individual Twitter accounts ahead of a podcast episode's debut.[4][5]

As professional wrestling enthusiasts — there was an extra week in between podcast episodes 9 and 10 while Ryckert was out of town attending WrestleMania 34 — Gerstmann and Ryckert make regular references to wrestling characters, storylines, etc.

In podcast episode (#), Yajirobe is coined as the "ass-eating samurai" (referring to a scene while training up at God's palace during the Saiyan arc) and tends to be introduced and referred to exclusively as such from this point forward.

Following his initial appearance and picking up steam during the Freeza arc, Gerstmann and Ryckert regularly impersonate Chris Sabat's Vegeta performance from the English dub, adlibbing dialog with observational humor that would generally be too obscene for dialog within the show-proper. Fans often post mash-ups editing the podcast's audio with footage from the series. Yamcha is handled in much the same way, increasingly so as the character's luck and relevance diminishes over the course of the story.

For reasons never explained within the podcast itself, Ryckert insists on pronouncing Freeza's name as "Freet-za".
