Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - Xross Blade is a promotional manga series by Yoshikazu Amami (天望良一) supporting the card-based arcade game of the same name.
The series ran for 34 chapters from the November 2020 (released 1 October 2020) to February 2024 (released 04 January 2024) issues Shueisha's Saikyō Jump magazine, wrapping up serialization at the same time as its respective arcade game's end-of-service.
Though furigana for Yoshikazu Amami's name explicitly indicates a pronunciation as such, this name is often misread as "Ryōichi Tenbō" (due to alternate kanji readings and/or a lack of careful observation).

The title of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - Xross Blade can be broken down as:
- "Dragon Quest" (ドラゴンクエスト Doragon Kuesuto): The overall franchise to which this manga series is a part of
- "The Adventure of Dai" (ダイの大冒険 Dai no Daibōken ): The sub-franchise to which this manga series is a part of; the original The Adventure of Dai was a manga series set in the Dragon Quest universe that began in 1991, and this series was produced in conjunction with a new television series adapting the original manga (its second, after an incomplete series from back in 1991), a card-based arcade game of the same name ("Xross Blade"), as well as a prequel manga series called The Hero Avan and the Dark Lord of Hellfire running over in V-Jump at the same time
- "XROSS BLADE": Though stylized with an "X-" at the beginning, furigana of クロスブレイド indicates an English pronunciation of "Cross Blade" (kurosu bureido) for the respective game and manga title.

- Dai (ダイ Dai): 言わずと知れた勇者の中の勇者。ユウキ達と共にダムド軍打倒の旅を続ける。勇気と実力を兼ね備えており、ユウキにとって憧れの存在。[1]
- Yuki (ユウキ Yūki): ひょんなことから「クロブレ」の世界に迷い込んでしまった少年。勇気はあるが、不器用で実力が追いつかず「メンタル勇者」と呼ばれていた。[1]
- Meiro (メイロ Meiro): ユウキが「クロブレ」の世界へと転生するきっかけになった謎の美女。ダムド軍から平和を守るべく、勇者を集結させている。[1]
- Hadlar (ハドラー Hadorā): ダムド軍配下の強者。ユウキの将来性を警戒し襲来するも、撃退される。[1]
- Damudo (ダムド Damudo): ダムド軍を率いる超越魔王。邪の者を集 結させ、世を支配しようと企む。[1]
- Flazzard (フレイザード Fureizādo): 凶暴な性格だが、ユウキ達との戦いを経て、仲間になった。[1]
- Hoimii (ホイミイ Hoimii): 心優しきホイミスライム。クロコダインと共にユウキ達の仲間になった。[1]

Production
Riku Sanjō (serving as the writer) and Kōji Inada (serving as the artist) produced the original Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai manga series, which ran from the 1989 No. 45 to 1996 No. 52 issues of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.
In conjunction with 2020's new animated adaptation of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai beginning that October (its second, following its original 1991 version), several related spin-offs and supporting products were released:
- A prequel manga series, Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - The Hero Avan and the Dark Lord of Hellfire, began with a five-page prologue chapter in the November 2020 issue of V-Jump[2], which then included a splash about the manga series beginning in earnest next month[3] in the following December 2020 issue[4]. Original writer Riku Sanjō returned in a supervisory role (receiving the 原作 gensaku credit, referring to the "Original Work" of the original Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai manga), while Yūsaku Shibata produced the manga itself. This manga continues to run in V-Jump.
- The card-based arcade game Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - Xross Blade ran from October 2020 to March 2024.
- The supporting Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - Xross Blade manga by Yoshikazu Amami ran from the November 2020 to February 2024 issues Saikyō Jump, wrapping up at the same time as its corresponding arcade game's end-of-service.
- The smartphone game Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: A Hero's Bonds, which ran from September 2021[5] to April 2023[6][7].
Yoshikazu Amami previously contributed the One Piece spin-off manga Chin Piece, which ran for 12 chapters from the July 2018 to May 2020 issue of Saikyō Jump, before picking up with Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - Xross Blade a few months later.

Releases
The collected edition of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai - Xross Blade began in July 2021, shortly into the run of the serialization, and ran through to its end with a seventh volume in March 2024. Print and digital editions were released alongside each other, day and date.
