Works

Futabashi Famicom Game Book Series

Enix collaborated with the Japanese publisher Futabasha for a series of "choose your own adventure"-style novelizations of various Dragon Quest video games.

Itoh's involvement began with 1987's Dragon Quest: The Heroic Legendary Tale Reborn (ドラゴンクエスト 蘇る英雄伝説 Doragon Kuesuto Yomigaeru Hideo Densetsu), an adaptation of the first Dragon Quest video game from the year prior. Itoh contributed several large, near-full-page illustrations to supplemental the book's branching narrative; these illustrations included the main hero character as well as various monsters, townspeople, etc.

Additionally, a character originally named "Yukinofu" (ゆきのふ Yukinofu) in the video game's original dialog is instead named "Grandpa" or "Old Man Shimpē" (シンペー爺さん Shinpē-jiisan) in the novelization; he is described as a thief who stole Loto's Armor from a shop in Cantlin (メルキド Merikido in the original Japanese script), and buried it behind his own shop in the town Damdara.[2]
