Planet Freeza No. 17 is a fictional celestial body that appears in the Dragon Ball franchise, one of an unknown number of planets under Freeza's control in Universe 7. It is exclusively seen in the fourth chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga, originally published 19 September 2015 in the November 2015 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine.

General Overview

As Sorbet looks outside at Planet Freeza No. 17, Shisami is in disbelief after hearing of Guarana's defeat in the fourth chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga[1]

Planet Freeza No. 17 is controlled by remnants of Freeza's army, appearing to serve as the latest central base.[1] It is one of an unknown number of planets (possibly in the hundreds[2]) that Freeza and his forces have under their control.

At the specific location of the army's base, the planet exhibits harsh winter conditions.[1]

Upon hearing of Guarana's defeat, Sorbet and the others on Planet Freeza No. 17 hasten their search for Dragon Balls in order to resurrect Freeza.[1]

Production

Planet Freeza No. 17 appears exclusively in the fourth chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga, in scenes that furthermore are exclusive to the manga adaptation of this storyline, separate from the original 2013 theatrical film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and 2015 theatrical film Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', as well as its then-concurrent version in the 2015 Dragon Ball Super television series. These events bridge the Battle of Gods re-telling, the Resurrection 'F' re-telling, and the Super-original "God of Destruction Champa arc".

Name

Similar to Planet Freeza No. 79, Planet Freeza No. 17 uses the phrasing structure of 惑星 (wakusei) + name, similar to "Planet Vegeta"; this is opposed to name + 星 (sei), as with "Planet Namek".

Per the furigana alongside the abbreviation, the "No." is to be spoken aloud in English as "number"; no pronunciation guide (either approximated from English as Sevuntiin or directly in Japanese as Jūnana) is provided in furigana for the number itself, though an English approximation would fall in line with that seen in Planet Freeza No. 79.

Inhabitants

At the time of the report of Guarana's defeat in Age 778, several other members of Freeza's organization are present on Planet Freeza No. 17. The known, named characters originally appeared earlier that year in the 2015 theatrical film Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', and later in the film's re-telling within the Dragon Ball Super television series.

Sorbet (ソルベ)
Debut: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' / Dragon Ball Super Chapter 4
Japanese VA: Shirō Saitō

A long-serving commander in Freeza's forces who carries the organization during Freeza's absence.

Tagoma (タゴマ)
Debut: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' / Dragon Ball Super Chapter 4
Japanese VA: Kazuya Nakai

A warrior who helps Sorbet resurrect Freeza. In Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F', Freeza kills him shortly after being revived in response to Tagoma criticizing his desire for revenge. In Dragon Ball Super, Tagoma has an ability similar to the Saiyans where he becomes stronger after healing from a near-death experience. Freeza exploits this ability to train with Tagoma for four months, which results in Tagoma receiving a huge power up. Ginyu tricks Tagoma into swapping bodies, leaving Tagoma helpless in the body of a Namekian frog.

Shisami (シサミ)
Debut: Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' / Dragon Ball Super Chapter 4
Japanese VA: Tetsu Inada

A powerful warrior who serves under Sorbet. He fights with Piccolo during Freeza's invasion of Earth.
