Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock is a promotional manga series written by Naho Ooishi, with additional character designs by Akira Toriyama and in coordination with Bandai Namco Entertainment, that ran for three chapters in Shueisha's V-Jump magazine. The series follows Bardock in a sequel "what if?" story following his brief encounter with Freeza and his subsequent battle in the past with Chilled. Episode of Bardock was itself a tie-in with the ongoing Dragon Ball Heroes arcade game, which at the time was set to feature Bardock in Super Saiyan form for the first time.

Plot

Bardock has somehow survived his confrontation with Freeza, and is being treated on Planet Plant by a doctor. Two goons soon arrive to conquer Planet Plant, but are quickly defeated by Bardock. After not hearing from the men he sent out ten days ago, "Chilled" decides to check on Planet Plant personally.

History

The Episode of Bardock series' three chapters were originally published in the August, September, and October 2011 issues of V-Jump.

A reprint of the first chapter was published that same year in the 2013 No. 3 (Fall) issue of Saikyō Jump released 11 August 2011.

An animated adaptation of the manga was announced and later premiered at Jump Festa 2012 on 17 December 2011. Following the anime's premiere, the manga in its entirety was re-printed in the April 2012 issue of V-Jump, released on 21 February 2012 featuring two new pages at the very end.

Characters

Major characters

  • Beat (ビート, Bīto): The main character of Victory Mission. Designed as a male, Saiyan, Hero-type avatar character from the original arcade version of Dragon Ball Heroes, Beat's name can be interpreted in two ways: first and foremost, it would appear to be a vegetable-based pun on "beet" (since he uses a Saiyan avatar), but it can also be a reference to a musical "beat", setting up the naming scheme that carries through to the main female characters who are introduced in subsequent chapters.
