Units of measurement

This page details various nonstandard units of measurement used throughout Dragon Ball.

Time Units

• Tik or Tick (チック tikku). Probably derived from the English word "tick" (チク or チック) as it is used in the expression "tick-tock".
  • Used by the Great Priest. One tik is roughly equal to 8 hours in Earth time (since 5 tiks are roughly equivalent to 40 hours).
• Ment (メント mento). Probably derived from the English word "moment" (モーメント or モメント).
  • Used by Merusu to describe the period of time between when Moro made his wish to free the inmates at the Galactic Prison and the time when that news reached them in their spaceship near New Planet Namek. No Earth comparison is given.
• Tak or Tack (タック takku). Probably derived from the English word "tock" (タク or タック) as it is used in the expression "tick-tock".
  • Used by the Great Priest. According to Whis, one tak is equivalent to about 29 seconds (since 100 taks are roughly equivalent to 48 minutes).
• Jik (ジック jikku). Probably derived from "jig" , which is itself derived from the French gigue, a fast dance. Both are rendered as ジッグ (jiggu) in Japanese.
  • Used by Whis to give stopwatch readings for Beerus and Shin, who are competing in a piggyback sprint with the Omni-Kings on their backs. No Earth comparison or exact distance is given, but they only race around the throne room. Beerus reaches the finish line in 121.39 jiks, while Shin finishes in 134.04 jiks.
