Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 The Manga is a 10-page, single-chapter comic by Toyotarō (with an additional single-page introductory message from Akira Toriyama) which serves as a prelude to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC video game Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2. In Japan, the comic was included within the Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 PS4 Version Monster Guardians Super Guide released 02 November 2016. Internationally, the comic was included within a special "Time Patroller's Guide" book released as part of a collector's edition of the video game itself, first released 25 October 2016.

Synopsis

In Age 851, the Kaiōshin of Time and Trunks are expanding the Time Patrol to deal with the ever-increasing threat of time manipulation, and many new recruits have taken up the cause. One new recruit in particular notices a disturbance in the distance, and upon investigating, is subsequently sucked into a time rift where he finds Son Goku battling not just Freeza on Planet Namek, but somehow also Coola. Goku apologizes to this mysterious person, but says he will give it his all, so he should escape while he still can. As Goku begins to power up a Kamehameha, a veteran Time Patroller appears on the scene, asks for Goku to allow him to help, and cheers on the new recruit. The three fire a combined Kamehameha, completely disintegrating their foes.

With the Kaiōshin of Time renewing Toki Toki City into Conton City, the new Time Patrol recruits continue to fight to protect time manipulation and everyone's memories.

Continuity

Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 The Manga serves as a prelude to the Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 video game, bridging the events of the first game in Age 850 and the second game in Age 852.

For the purposes of this story, the new Time Patrol recruit is depicted as the pre-made custom character design consistently used in Bandai Namco's Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 trailers and promotional print material, while the veteran Time Patroller who assists is likewise the pre-made custom character design consistently used in Bandai Namco's original Dragon Ball XENOVERSE trailers and promotional print material. Within the Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2 game itself, the player creates their own new Time Patrol character, and has the option of importing save data from the first Dragon Ball XENOVERSE to use their previous Time Patroller in place of the veteran, or to select from a few custom designs pre-made by Bandai Namco (one of whom is the aforementioned trailer version).

In all releases, the ten-page comic is preceded by a single page with an introductory comment from Akira Toriyama:

The English edition is notable for its introductory comment being accompanied by a further note that the manga is, "...drawn by Akira Toriyama's chosen successor Toyotaro" and starts on the next page. The additional emphasis on this line is not present in its respective Japanese publication, which simply states that it can be read beginning on the next page (ドラゴンボール ゼノバース2ザ·マンガはここから左へ向かって読んでいこう！).
