"Dragon Ball Z: Saiyan Invasion" is the eighth volume of the Funimation DVD series called Dragon Ball Z: The Ultimate Uncut Special Edition. "Saiyan Invasion" contains episodes 22-24. It was marketed as the first volume in "Vegeta Saga II" and released on 21 Mar 2006 in North America.
General Overview
Each release features episodes of Dragon Ball Z with branching video tracks depending on the language selected:
- With English voices selected: an altered English-only episode title card is displayed; openings are creditless; each episode's ending has English reversion credits unique to each episode's production.
- With Japanese voices selected: the original Japanese episode title card is displayed; openings are creditless; each episode's ending has credits that are all actually those ripped from the first episode).
- With Spanish voices selected: the original Japanese episode title card is displayed; openings and endings are creditless.
The opening theme uses its second animation version (of four total), while the ending theme uses its first animation version (of two total). In addition to the English video track featuring Nathan Johnson's replacement score, unique Funimation-specific opening and ending sequences replace the original animations. The opening track "Opening Music" is composed by Dave Moran and and the ending track "Closing Music" is composed by Mark Menza.
All eyecatches are presented in their correct location mid-episode. No "next episode previews" are provided. The English audio (with Nathan Johnson's replacement score) is selected by default.
- Opening: "CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA" (v.2)
- Ending: "Come Out, Incredible ZENKAI Power!"
- Eyecatch: (Goku and Gohan) (v.1)
Previous to this release, episodes 22 through 24 of Dragon Ball Z were not available subtitled in North America (Region 1), having only been available heavily edited on VHS and DVD featuring the Canadian ("Ocean Studios") voice cast. The "Ultimate Uncut Edition" DVD line was planned to cover the first 67 episodes with Funimation's new in-house redub, but was cancelled after Volume 9, in favor of future "season" releases; the content of the "Ultimate Uncut" episodes did, however, air in their entirety on Cartoon Network and Toonami's "Adult Swim" block.
