My belief is that the more zenkais a Saiyan recently received, the greater the power boost becomes for the next one. Goku gave himself zenkais on his way to Namek and Vegeta went through a few zenkais himself. Then both Vegeta and Goku received Zenkais that boosted their power dramatically.

I remember in filler, before the 23rd budokai started, Piccolo saved a mother and her child from falling debris. This was when he was still pure evil. I never understood why he saved them, other than I guess it's foreshadowing to him turning good?

The power jump from Z to GT is ridiculous, as you know. I can maybe see him getting up to Baby Vegeta/SSJ4 Goku level, but Omega Shenron? SSJ4 Gogeta? Not a chance.

Future Trunks turned SSJ as a kid in the manga. For all we know, he could turn SSJ as young as Kid Trunks did. He was much weaker though, probably because Kid Trunks was trained by Vegeta and maybe Vegeta was stronger when he was conceived.

I don't see the big deal. His face matured and his hairstyle changed. His hairstyle changed quite frequently though. I can see what you mean about that GT picture since he has a similar hairstyle, but that's not really a good picture for Gohan. He's scowling.
