Well... a lot of these fans come off as really aggressive and since Dragon Ball is a show centered around fighting and contains a lot of injury and destruction, it probably does attract it's share of fans who simply have anger issues and power complexes. I don't think Dragon Ball is unhealthy, it's ...

Awww, I was hoping to justify collecting them when I already own most of the manga in regular size to myself. :D

I was thinking they might go in the opposite direction and uncensor it a bit since it's supposed to be a higher quality version, but I guess that's too much to hope for with Dragon Ball Z.

Viz Big Version

Excuse me if this has been answered elsewhere, there's a lot to be read through here.

I noticed the first Viz Big edition of Dragon Ball Z is out. Does anyone have it yet, and know if the dialogue translation/adaptation in the Viz Big version is the same as the dialogue in the previous, normal ...

...A short flashback and a few lines explaining their human sides and past would have added a lot more personality to these characters.

Since they obviously had free will and must have remembered their experiences before they were turned into androids (since they obviously remembered each other ...

17 and 18 were explained as being humans that were turned into androids, but who were they before that? Where did Dr. Gero get these twin kids in the first place? Did they want to be androids at first - maybe just two bored kids lured in by him promising them power before he tried to take complete ...

Well, aside from the Bulma thing, I think Goku is made into a much more boring character in the dub. Originally, while he was a very good character with a lot of purity he also had some darker, more selfish points to him that made him interesting and contrasted well with the rest of his character ...

Maybe this is a weird complaint to have, but in the anime they showed the afterlife too much. It's like every other episode you see people hanging around in Heaven and Hell, and after a while I started to wonder why it really matters if anyone dies. In the anime version of the DB universe, death for ...

It's not her character so much that I dislike, though its not a especially unique character, she's just a little bit... frustrating. They came so, so close to having one female character that was a competent fighter and fully participated. The potential was all there, at the end of Z. But no - she's ...

Okay, thanks. The first 13 episodes in 1995 makes sense, the ones I saw were all at the beginning of the series and I would have been a kid then. Wow, that's a long time now that I think about it. I feel kind of hardcore now. :P

DB Dub

When did the Dragon Ball, not DBZ, dub air in North America?

I have memories of going over to my best friend's house and watching it with her sometimes as a little kid, but can't quite place when that was.

I always understood it to be the flame breath and the fireball, the flame breath stood out to me most of all. I didn't notice the after image so much at first but, yes, does seem different. So, now I would guess that's it's all three equally and Goku was referring to the difference in the way he ...

Agreed. Anyone with half an interest in film knows that skill, dedication, and hard work trump budget.

Definitely, though I would add good design to that. Exceptional design concepts can easily mask a low budget.

Personally, some of the design decisions they made in that movie weren't ones I ...

I feel this strange kind of loyalty to Dragonball, I started watching it when I was a little kid and the original DB (not Z) dub was first playing. Years later, I still check the news at DaizEX and save up to buy DVDs and finish my manga collection. It's nice to know there are others who would ...

Maybe I just like it. I don't need a reason to enjoy something.

And... I think somewhere along the way some people ...

It was good for a first effort, it had a nice look and a pretty good flow to it. The sound of the music fit it pretty well, but I was very distracted by the lyrics. Lyrics that don't literally apply to the scenes can work, but in this case it was just distracting because I kept wondering "what does ...

That makes sense. There's no need for you all to just restrict yourselves to E Nomine for this kind of thing, though. There is a whole wide world of gothic electronic music out there, if you want to try something new but similar for AMVs. Look up futurepop artists, they have a very similar sound to ...

Goku was originally intended to be Chinese... If I somehow had the power to cast anyone I wanted in the movie, I would definitely go with an ambiguous Eurasian. I think that would be the ideal look for him.
