Re: Why do people like loooooooooooong fights?
Those shorter action cartoons have a set length, so they're able to build up momentum, let it loose, relax a bit, and then do it over again as much as needed (well, maybe not FMAB). The mantra of Dragon Ball and its ilk is "stay on the air at any cost." Which means they can very rarely form a ...

Re: Do you ever feel like your love for the series is dying?
I think that my love for the anime has taken a big hit. I used to love the original show and considered it way better than Z--but watching it on Hulu, I'm not so certain that's true anymore.

Re: Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
The feeling I get from reading Dragon Ball is the childlike glee of a goofy adventure. The only Dragon Ball anime where I've felt that same feeling thus far is the 2nd movie, "Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle." And the only other anime would be Konosuke Uda's run on One Piece.

From what I've seen, there's a fans of a whole lot of different things who put too much emphasis on canon and continuity.

Re: Schemmel never heard Nozawa till 2004
Actually, it's the other way around--voices are recorded after the animation is done. The only exceptions I know of are Akira, Red Garden and parts of Only Yesterday. In Anime it's common that the animation is done after the voices have been recorded.

I don't think it does. Mind you, I'd prefer swears never be used, but I've never gotten the sense of any forced "edginess" from the swearing--it sounds pretty natural.

Re: Kai Episode 120 (07 September 2014)
Yet lots of people claim the 90's one has better animation when it's not even half as fluid as other anime from that time and Hunter X Hunter (2011) is easily the best animated shonen right now, they also say the music is terrible which really baffles me since the music is freaking amazing ...

Actually, Madhouse and Studio Chizu did that one.Toei, if I'm not mistaken, produced Wolf Children, and that animation was such a throwback to the titles of old.

Though I've never really felt this way about Nozawa, I have to say that if you can't match the voice with the animation, the dissonance had better be intentional, or you're doing something wrong. What does that have to do with the nature and personality of the character?

Re: Dragon Ball GT- Does It Deserve Your Attention?
I've only seen a few episodes of GT with the original score, so maybe it loses something later on. But from what I've seen, I honestly prefer GT to Z. As I said on another thread, it's like a certain type of fanfic that's too overblown to actually be good--but it's so eager to please, it's hard not ...

Re: Toriyama Is Ruining DragonBall?!
If you don't mind me saying so, I fail to see how Dragon Ball's 6th grade level "tee-hee, naughty" jokes correspond to Toriyama being "poisonous." Nothing I've read in Dragon Ball has given me that impression. A guy with a juvenile sense of humor, maybe, but that's about it.

All of his work has been redubbed for all current releases
Not quite all of it, actually: Ginyu's battle screams are still Kelly. Guess they thought Brice Armstrong was too old for that stuff. And if that's true, they're pretty lucky his screams only came at the point they changed casts ...

Re: Did Akira Toriyama Need More Variety When Drawing Faces?
While I've never had a problem telling characters apart, I do think Toriyama did himself no favors in that regard making so many people Super Saiyan.
Still, I think you only really notice how samey Toriyama's designs are when you compare different works. Like in Chrono Trigger, Crono is Goku ...

The notion that you might as well watch the dub is ridiculous. It's not our fault if you lack the ability to immerse yourself in a show without a dub.
My apologies--I didn't mean to suggest that subtitled anime is worthless. I watch a lot of it myself. I simply wanted to state my belief that it's ...

If you'll forgive my bluntness--those who want to experience the "original version" of a Japanese cartoon should learn Japanese and watch it without subtitles.
Because with subtitles, you're not getting the original version. You're getting someone's translation of the original version. And if that ...

Re: Did DBZ Overuse The "Idiot Ball" Trope?
There's nothing wrong with using this plot device when you can justify it. And Dragon Ball's usually good at doing so. Not always, but usually.
Though I wish he'd been punished a bit more for it, Goku having Gohan fight Cell is a really good example. After Piccolo yells at him, you can see him ...

Personally, I'm glad Toei didn't put their Kai axe to the original show. If Kai can be called good, it's because its bad qualities somehow cancel out Z's bad qualities. You wouldn't get that with Dragon Ball.

Also, what are your thoughts on Burgmeier's performance?
Aside from way back when everyone was bad, I never had a problem with it--he fit the character, and did alright acting wise. Hardly Burgmeier's best role (Kurama) or even his second best (Elmer), but alright.

But do they really count as flaws when no character seems to acknowledge them as such? It's certainly not enough to call him a "Mary Sue," that's true, but it really does make me a bit uncomfortable.

Re: Is Chi-Chi a bad mother (and wife)?
The problem with Chi-Chi as I see it is that Dragon Ball wants her to be almost always be a cartoon mom who's "funny" in her overreactions, even when the title's trying to be serious. The transition...isn't very graceful, to say the least.
Mind you, Toriyama might have just had early struggles ...
