The Masenkōsappō is a ki manipulation combination attack used by Son Gohan and Piccolo.

Usage

Masenkōsappō was introduced in Dragon Ball Z: Bukū Ressen ("Supersonic Warriors 2") as a combination attack used by Piccolo and Super Saiyan 2 Gohan.

In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Gohan and Piccolo use the attack against OG73-i, an android in Saganbo's Galactic Bandit Brigade, in the run-up to the battle with Moro.[1]

Name

In the manga, Gohan starts with "Masen..." and Piccolo finishes with "...kōsappō". In Bukū Ressen, Gohan says "Masenkō" and Piccolo finishes with "...sappō".

Masenkōsappō is a portmanteau of Masenkō (魔閃光 ませんこう), meaning "Demon Flash", and Makankōsappō (魔貫光殺砲 まかんこうさっぽう), a compound kanji name literally translated as "Demon Pierce Light Kill Cannon". The in Makankōsappō (光, read ひかり or hikari when used as a standalone noun) means "light", but the same in Masenkō is part of the compound word senkō (閃光 せんこう) meaning "flash".

In Viz's English translation of the Dragon Ball Super manga, the attack name is rendered as "Demon Flash ... of Death" combining their respective translations of "Demon Flash" for Masenkō and "Light of Death" (or "Demon Light of Death" as alternatively used earlier in this same chapter) for Makankōsappō.[2]
