K-7 is the Kanzenshuu catalogue number assigned to an unreleased piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 1 which was broadcast on 26 February 1986.
Overview
K-7 is given the title "Goku In His Element" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions.
Compositional Analysis
K-7 is 21 bars in fast 2, divided into three sections [(5+3)+(5+3)+5]. The piece could also be understood as (5+3)+(5+4)+4.
The piece begins on a C7 tonality (dominant of F). In a fast 2, a string and woodwind melody covers 5 bars, and then woodwinds and xylophone respond for 3 bars, for a total of 8 bars.
Next the string/woodwind melody is stated again over F7 for 5 bars (dominant of B♭), and the woodwinds/xylophone again respond for 3 bars (total of 8).
The final 5-bar section is in D Minor (relative minor of F), beginning with a downward statement of D-C-A in a triplet over one bar, then back up to D in the second bar, upwards A-A call in a woodwind instrument in the third bar, and two more bars of hold on D.
