Dragon Ball Hit Song Collection is a collection of Dragon Ball insert songs released in Japan on 21 June 1986 on vinyl and cassette. The LP was re-released as a collector's item on 28 July 2021.[1]
The LP is accompanied by a four-page booklet featuring artwork from the TV anime with full lyrics and credits for each song.[2]
The Hit Song Collection was never released on compact disc, likely because it was rendered obsolete by the 1988 Dragon Ball Complete Song Collection before compact discs became the industry standard.
Overview
- For further information, see Dragon Ball Music.
The Dragon Ball Hit Song Collection is the first album-length song collection for the Dragon Ball franchise. The album contains full-length (as opposed to TV-Size) versions of the opening (OP) and ending (ED) songs, one image song that was never used in the anime ("Hunt for Mr. Dream"), and every insert song that was used in the series with the exception of the two "Red Ribbon" insert songs.
At the time the Hit Song Collection was released, the manga was in the Red Ribbon arc, but the anime was still in the 21st Tenka'ichi Budōkai arc. The two "Red Ribbon" insert songs were released on the Dragon Ball Complete Song Collection in 1988, along with the full contents of the Hit Song Collection, plus four more image songs that were never used in the anime.
The songs of this collection were also included on Disc 1 of the Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z Daizenshuu box set release in 1994, reproducing the full contents of the original Complete Song Collection along with a new remix of "Mystical Adventure" (this was added to the 2003 re-release of the Complete Song Collection).
