K-118 is the Kanzenshuu catalogue number assigned to an unreleased piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986.
K-118 appears to have been written for Dragon Ball Movie 1, but the tag end of it is used in Dragon Ball Episode 20 which was broadcast on 09 July 1986, more than five months before the film's premiere. The tag end is used again in Dragon Ball Movie 3.
In Movie 1, The Legend of Shenlong, K-118 is preceded by K-233 and followed by K-234.
Overview
K-118 is a short piece in F Major that ends on the dominant (C7). It is given the title "Why Not The World Or Riches" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions.
Form and Analysis
K-118 consists of a 2-bar phrase in F Major that is repeated for a total of 4 bars, followed by a swerve into the dominant (C7) that ends the piece after about two bars. The swerve begins in the final bar of the F-Major section when a slide whistle interrupts the regular woodblock percussion, sliding upwards to C5. Spacey synth percussion beats the dominant (C), then a muted trombone slides downward from C4 while a guitar tremolo synth plays a C7 chord.
