K-75 is the Kanzenshuu catalogue number assigned to an unreleased piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 8 which was broadcast on 16 April 1986.
Overview
K-75 is a short piece of a transitional nature. It is given the title "Kame Sennin's Grand Entrance" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions.
Form and Analysis
The piece begins with a gong sound. The melody (including flute) leads with 5-1-6 (C-F-D), a pentatonic motive reminiscent of traditional Chinese music. This final D is held while a marimba taps F and A, the root and 3rd of F Major. Then the harmony shifts to E7, which would normally be the dominant in the keys of A. This is where the piece ends, but there are no BGM in A Major or A Minor in this arc, so it is never used as a dominant prelude.
