Soba is an inhabitant of Planet Yardrat who trains Goku following his fight with Freeza and before his return back to Earth.

A full year has passed. The power of the Dragon Balls has been restored. Fulfulling their promise, the Z Warriors summon the dragon and wish Goku back to life, but they are shocked to learn that the dragon cannot grant this wish! Goku is still alive! Mere seconds before Planet Namek exploded, Goku escaped in a Ginyu space pod, only to crash on a mysterious alien planet. For the last year, he has lived among the strange inhabitants of the Planet Yardrat studying and mastering their fighting techniques, and now, as he prepares to embark on a long and difficult journey home, he must put those skills to the test.

Soba's battle power ("power level") is indicated as 14,000,000.[1]

Name

Soba's name is likely a reference to the noodles of the same name.

The name "Soba" was previously used by Akira Toriyama in the original Dragon Ball manga for the character that would later be renamed Shuu.

Soba is one of only a few Yardratians in the history of the franchise to be named, a small group which also includes Jimizu in the Dragon Ball Super series. With such a large time gap between the characters' creations, and Soba being an original creation for an American video game, any theoretical consistent naming scheme for the race is unknown.

Production

No information has been made available regarding Soba and his Dragon Ball Z: Sagas appearance.

Performance

Though extensive voice credits are provided in the ending sequence of Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, Soba is not included; in-game, Soba's vocal performance is limited to grunts.

Notable Appearances

Thus far, Soba exclusively appears in Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, released in America on the Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo Gamecube, and Microsoft Xbox in November 2004.
