The game's story is told in the form of clips compiled from the anime and narrated by Funimation voice actor (and third-overall Dragon Ball Z Funimation Dragon Ball Z English dub narrator) Kyle Herbert.

The game also contains a stage adapting the story of the future versions of Gohan and Trunks from the respective television special, as well as a fight against game-exclusive character Soba on Planet Yardrat.
