Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is a fighting game developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment for the Sony PlayStation 5, Microsoft Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam), released 10 October 2024 in Japan and 11 October 2024 internationally. The game was later released on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 14 November 2025.
Following the completion of its first "season pass" worth of additional downloadable content, the game received a substantial "Super Limit-Breaking NEO" update across its launch platforms 30 July 2026 (with the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions slated to receive the update some time in 2027). This update, which included a free patch that added certain elements for all players, included additional playable characters, stages, and game mode updates.
Sparking! ZERO is currently the latest entry in the Sparking! series of Dragon Ball fighting games, released internationally at the time under the "Budokai Tenkaichi" moniker during its original run.
Gameplay
Battles in Sparking! ZERO take place in 3D arenas with an over-the-shoulder camera angle. They are played in a one-on-one format, between teams of one to five characters that can be swapped out during battle. Some characters can also transform or fuse during battle, when the required conditions are met. Battle content includes various story-focused routes, missions with pre-set scenarios and conditions, and more.
Sparking! ZERO also includes options to shop (using in-game currency) for additional playable characters, costumes, music options, etc. Various types of gallery modes also include the ability to browse and customize characters and player identification options, as well as a specific mode to cycle through all playable characters while Chi-Chi, Bulma, and Videl comment on their appearances and history.
Game Modes
- Episode & Custom: TBD
- Episode Battle: A story mode featuring eight selectable point-of-view characters; Son Goku, Vegeta, Son Gohan, Piccolo, Future Trunks, Freeza, Goku Black, and Jiren. The "Super Limit-Breaking NEO" update added Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Kuririn, and Cell as point-of-view characters.
