Yūji Kasai is the author and illustrator of two spin-off Dragon Ball manga series: Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!! and Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!!, both originally serialized in the children's magazine Saikyō Jump produced by Shueisha. In addition to these works, Kasai has contributed a variety of promotional and informational pieces in various Shueisha publications.
Biography
Little is known about Yūji Kasai, including whether or not said name is a pen name.[a] With no known social media platforms (as opposed to peers such as Toyotarō and Yoshitaka Nagayama), the only verifiable public comments from Kasai come from author introductions in collected manga volumes, as well as comments in the back of Saikyō Jump issues alongside other author comments.
Kasai has participated in public autograph sessions, however, alongside other Dragon Ball manga authors like Toyotarō.[1]
Works
Victory Uchida's Path to Becoming President!
The historical fiction comedy series "Victory Uchida's Path to Becoming President!" (ビクトリー・ウチダの社長への道!) began in the December 2012 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine in October 2012[2], and ran for (TBD) chapters to (TBD).
N•E•O Shindo's "Pro"logue
The slapstick, timely, informational/promotional manga series "N•E•O Shindo's "Pro"logue" (N•E•Oシンドーの"プロ"ローーグ!!) began in the April 2024 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine in February 2024[3], with the manga by Yūji Kasai and editing (additional layout and real-life photography compositing) by N.E.O. Shindo. The manga continues to run today, eclipsing 30 chapters in 2026.
Promotional and Informational Pieces
Prior to their formal Dragon Ball manga serializations (and then also concurrent with them), Yūji Kasai appeared in the pages of various Shueisha publications for a variety of promotional and informational Dragon Ball-related pieces. These include, but are not limited to:
- A mini-manga series in two Dragon Ball Heroes anniversary guides called "Project DBH: The Story of Producer Wataru Higuchi" (プロジェクトDBH ~樋口亘P物語~) featuring Heroes producer Wataru Higuchi explaining the history of the game, where Kasai is credited in full kanji as 葛西雄治. These are included in the Bandai Official 5th Anniversary Fanbook: Dragon Ball Heroes 5th Anniversary Mission in 2015[4] and in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes 8th Anniversary Super Guide in 2018[5].
- A mini-manga in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Tour 2019 Super Guide in 2019 called "A Must-Read Manga For Anyone Who Wants to Know About Super Dragon Ball Heroes Tournaments" (SDBHの大会について 知りたい人に読んで欲しいマンガ超)[6].
- A mini-manga series in two Dragon Ball Heroes anniversary guides called "Super Dragon Ball Heroes Creator Profiles" (『SDBH』制作者列伝) featuring game staff. These are included in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes 9th Anniversary Super Guide in 2019[7] and in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes 10th Anniversary Super Guide in 2020[8].
- A mini-manga in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Big Bang Mission Super Guide in 2020 called "Super Dragon Ball Heroes Creators' Chronicles: The Story Behind Big Bang Mission: It's the 10th Anniversary, Bang Bang Bang" (『SDBH』制作者烈伝 ビッグバンミッション創造記 ~ 10周年だよバンバンバン~)[9].
- "Extra Edition" (番外編) chapters of the Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!! manga series in two Dragon Ball Heroes anniversary guides. A four-page chapter is included in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes 11th Anniversary Super Guide in 2021[10], and a two-page chapter is included in the Super Dragon Ball Heroes 12th Anniversary Super Guide in 2022[11]
- A five-page mini-manga in conjunction with the January 2020 issue of V-Jump explaining how to use that issue's Super Dragon Ball Heroes insert card and the "All-Entrants Service Card"[12][13]
- The 2020 No. 52 issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump came packed with a "Vegetto" card (BMWJ-01) for Super Dragon Ball Heroes, along with a special one-shot comic by Kasai about how to use the card[14][15]

Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!!
Yūji Kasai's regular Dragon Ball work began with the one-shot Super Dragon Ball Heroes Side-Story: Avatar Story!! in the January 2021 issue of Saikyō Jump, which was later adapted and expanded into the full Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!! serialization beginning in the magazine's September 2021 issue, and running to completion in the October 2024 issue of the magazine. Alongside several series by Yoshitaka Nagayama in the same magazine, Avatars!! ran in support of the Super Dragon Ball Heroes card-based arcade game.
The series spanned 37 chapters and was collected into five volumes[16], which were released over the course of 2022-2024 by Shueisha.
Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!!
Following the completion of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!!, Yūji Kasai moved on to authoring and illustrating Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!! beginning in the December 2024 issue of Saikyō Jump[17], a series in support of the Dragon Ball Super Divers card-based arcade game. The series is currently ongoing and receiving collected volumes.[18]
Promotional Items
Kasai contributed an autographed drawing available to select winners of a lottery at Jump Victory Carnival 2026 featuring Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!!, which says "Dragon Ball is the best!!" (ドラゴンボール最高!!).[19]

Alongside Toyotarō and Yoshitaka Nagayama, Yūji Kasai shared a congratulatory comment and drawing about Dragon Ball Heroes in the game series' 10th anniversary guide book[20]:

Finally, Kasai contributed a short congratulatory comment and drawing for the wrap-up of the Dragon Ball Heroes game series in its Heroes Memories guide book[22]:

Erroneous Citations
An animator named Yūji Kasai but spelled out in kanji as 笠井雄司 is listed in various places (see: Anime News Network's encyclopedia) as being this same Dragon Ball manga author. This seems unlikely due to the wildly different drawing styles, genres, and completely different name spellings — the Shueisha employee has been credited before as 葛西雄治.
