Yūji Kasai is the author and illustrator of two spin-off Dragon Ball manga series: Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!! and Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!!, both originally serialized in the children's magazine Saikyō Jump produced by Shueisha. In addition to these works, Kasai has contributed a variety of promotional and informational pieces in various Shueisha publications.

Little is known about Yūji Kasai[b] With no known social media platforms (as opposed to peers such as Toyotarō and Yoshitaka Nagayama), the only verifiable public comments from Kasai come from author introductions in collected manga volumes, as well as comments in the back of Saikyō Jump issues alongside other author comments.

Kasai has participated in public autograph sessions, however, alongside other Dragon Ball manga authors like Toyotarō.[2]

Santa Came to Our House!

Kasai received an honorable mention at Shueisha's 74th Akatsuka Award for the submission Santa Came to Our House! (サンタが家にやってきた!) in early 2011.[3]

Occult-san Go! Go!

The 19-page comedy manga one-shot Occult-san Go! Go! (オカルトさんGO!GO!) ran in the special Jump NEXT! Summer 2011 publication.[4]

Occult Hunter Rūto

The 11-chapter manga series Occult Hunter Rūto (オカルトハンター ルート) began with the first main reboot of Shueisha's Saikyō Jump magazine, running from the January 2012 issue (released in December 2011) to the October 2012 issue, receiving a single-volume collected edition later that same year (collecting only the first seven chapters and an original extra chapter), and a digital release early the following year.[5]

Victory Uchida's Path to Becoming President!

The slapstick, informational/promotional manga series Victory Uchida's Path to Becoming President! (ビクトリー・ウチダの社長への道!) began in the December 2012 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine (released in October 2012)[6], and ran for 79 chapters to the July 2019 issue[7]. Kasai was credited with his full name of 葛西雄治 for the entire run, with "Victory Uchida" receiving the 編集 ("editing") credit alongside him. As teased during the final chapter, beginning with the August 2019 issue of V-Jump, the series transitioned into a follow-up called Victory Asada's Path to First-Class!!! (ビクトリー・アサダの超一流への道!!!) featuring editor "Victory Asada" in the place of Uchida.

Victory Asada's Path to First-Class!!!

The slapstick, informational/promotional manga series Victory Asada's Path to First-Class!!! (ビクトリー・アサダの超一流への道!!!) picked up in the August 2019 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine (released in June 2019)[8], and ran for 55 chapters to the March 2024 issue[9]. Kasai was credited at this point with the kana-only name of カサイユージ for the full run, with "Victory Asada" now receiving the 編集 ("editing") credit alongside him. As teased during the final chapter, beginning with the April 2024 issue of V-Jump, the series transitioned into a follow-up called N•E•O Shindo's "Pro"logue (N•E•Oシンドーの"プロ"ローーグ!!) the following issue.

N•E•O Shindo's "Pro"logue

The slapstick, informational/promotional manga series N•E•O Shindo's "Pro"logue (N•E•Oシンドーの"プロ"ローーグ!!) began in the April 2024 issue of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine (released in February 2024)[10], with the manga by Kasai, and "N.E.O. Shindo" now receiving the 編集 ("editing") credit alongside him. The manga continues to run today, eclipsing 30 chapters in 2026.

Aim for the Top! The Strongest Superstar Psy Jack Omega!! The Manga

Another slapstick manga series based on the real lives of Jump editors entitled Aim for the Top! The Strongest Superstar Psy Jack Omega!! The Manga (めざせ! 最強スーパースターサイ・ジャックΩ!! ザ・マンガ) began in the January 2012 issue of Shueisha's Saikyō Jump magazine (released in December 2011)[11]. In its first two chapters, the series was actually called The Strongest Challenger Psy Jack!! Manga Edition (最強チャレンジャーサイ・ジャック!! マンガ版)[12] before switching to its more permanent title with its third chapter in the March 2012 issue[13]. The series ran until the November 2015 issue, with chapters neither being numbered along the way nor collected into volumes.

Burn!! Psy Jack Dragon!!

A follow-up Psy Jack series entitled Burn!! Psy Jack Dragon!! (燃えよ!! サイ・ジャックD!!) picked up in the January 2016 issue of Shueisha's Saikyō Jump magazine (released in December 2015)[14]. The series ran until the May 2021 issue, with chapters neither being numbered along the way nor collected into volumes.

Promotional and Informational Pieces

Prior to the formal Dragon Ball manga serializations (and then also concurrent with them), Yūji Kasai appeared in the pages of various Shueisha publications for a variety of promotional and informational Dragon Ball-related pieces. These include, but are not limited to:

Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!!

Yūji Kasai's regular Dragon Ball work began with the one-shot Super Dragon Ball Heroes Side-Story: Avatar Story!! in the January 2021 issue of Saikyō Jump, which was later adapted and expanded into the full Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!! serialization beginning in the magazine's September 2021 issue, and running to completion in the October 2024 issue of the magazine. Alongside several series by Yoshitaka Nagayama in the same magazine, Avatars!! ran in support of the Super Dragon Ball Heroes card-based arcade game.

The series spanned 37 chapters and was collected into five volumes[27], which were released over the course of 2022-2024 by Shueisha.

Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!!

Following the completion of Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Avatars!!, Yūji Kasai moved on to authoring and illustrating Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!! beginning in the December 2024 issue of Saikyō Jump[28], a series in support of the Dragon Ball Super Divers card-based arcade game. The series is currently ongoing and receiving collected volumes.[29]

Kasai contributed an autographed drawing available to select winners of a lottery at Jump Victory Carnival 2026 featuring Dragon Ball Super Divers: Let's Super Dive!!, which says "Dragon Ball is the best!!" (ドラゴンボール最高!!).[30]

Alongside Toyotarō and Yoshitaka Nagayama, Yūji Kasai shared a congratulatory comment and drawing about Dragon Ball Heroes in the game series' 10th anniversary guide book[31]:

Finally, Kasai contributed a short congratulatory comment and drawing for the wrap-up of the Dragon Ball Heroes game series in its Heroes Memories guide book[33]:

Erroneous Citations

An animator named Yūji Kasai but spelled out in kanji as 笠井雄司 is listed in various places (see: Anime News Network's encyclopedia) as being this same Dragon Ball manga author. This seems unlikely due to the wildly different drawing styles, genres, and completely different name spellings — the Shueisha employee has been credited before as 葛西雄治.
