"A Savior Appears?!" is the five hundred and first chapter of the Dragon Ball manga series by Akira Toriyama. It was first published in Japan in the 1995 #05/06 issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump.

Summary

Buu thinks Gohan is getting really weak, which prompts Gohan to fly at him with a punch, though Buu easily dodges it and elbows Gohan into the ground. Gohan fires a blast back up at Buu, but he quickly puts his hands together and slams the blast back toward Gohan. The blast shoots straight through the ground and flies out into space on the other side of the planet. Gohan is still down in the hole, and Buu flies in after him. Buu estimates he has about ten minutes left, and he really wants to make them fun. Dende tells Mister Satan to take the dog and get out of here, but Satan says the champion can't do such a thing. Satan pulls out his 45 caliber and says he'll blast Buu away with this. Dende is speechless...

Back in the Kaiōshin Realm Goku prepares to teleport away, but Old Kaiōshin tells him to wait. He asks Goku just how he plans on beating Buu. Goku suddenly gets the idea to use Fusion with Gohan. Old Kaiōshin doubts Buu would just stand there and wait for them to do the poses for that, and Goku asks why he had even said to go and beat up Buu in the first place then. Old Kaiōshin takes off his earrings, and tells Goku to put one of these Potara on his left ear. Then have Gohan put the other Potara on his right ear, and they'll fuse. But this is better than Fusion, and the Potara are an ancient treasure of the Kaiōshin. He wants the younger Kaiōshin to test it out using his own Potara with Kibito. Kibito and Kaiōshin each put on a Potara, and, suddenly...

Gohan suddenly comes crashing out of the ground and lands hard, looking pretty damaged. Dende flies over toward him and quickly heals him, just before Buu comes flying out of the ground himself. Buu prepares to finish off Gohan, until he notices him standing up and fully healed again. Buu notes that Gohan has been restored, but he hasn't powered up much. Buu hits Gohan with a kiai shockwave, and then fires a blast at Dende. Satan fires his 45 at the blast, and it works! Well, in actuality, we see a pair of hands in a Kikōhō formation. Tenshinhan has arrived, and says he barely recognizes Son Gohan. Majin Buu has changed as well. Buu says another pitiful small fry has arrived, but a small fry is still a small fry.

Kaiōshin and Kibito have now fused, generally looking just like a taller Kaiōshin with long straight hair. Kaiōshin gets excited at his power boost and claims he can fight too, but Old Kaiōshin bursts his bubble. Goku thinks that's awesome and asks how long the fusion lasts. Old Kaiōshin says the potara fusion last forever. Kaiōshin isn't so thrilled now. Goku thinks that that stinks, but there's no way around it. When things are peaceful, he'll have to go to Gohan's school and whatnot. The old man tells him to hurry before Gohan dies, and so Goku prepares to teleport away. Buu has formed a large ball over his head and prepares to kill them all away. Tenshinhan thinks Buu is dimensions ahead of him, as Satan aims his gun to take out Buu...

 ==Summary==
-Goku suddenly stops and asks if they should be Super Saiyan first. Old Kaiōshin says there's no point, they can do it afterwards. Besides, the stress would be too much for their body and shorten their lifespan. You can only use the Potara once in your life, though. Goku asks if him if he has ever used them. He explains that an ugly old witch once took one to try to be a pretty gal, and this is why he's able to do these mysterious things. Kaiōshin interrupts them, saying there's no time for talking. Goku agrees, and quickly teleports away.

-Buu prepares to launch his attack, while Gohan, Tenshinhan, and Dende are all watch on in shock. Satan on the other hand closes his eyes and fires his gun, apologizing to Majin Buu. Goku suddenly appears behind Buu, and throws a ''Kienzan'', cutting Buu in half and slicing off the end of his forelock. Gohan wonders how his father was able to come back to the living world. Satan opens his eyes, and thinks he's cut Buu's body all up with that shot. Buu's upper body recognizes Goku as the guy with all the weird transformations. Buu says it's no use if he's come to help. Goku grins and very confidently tells Buu he's wrong, because he has an incredible power up item this time. Buu's lower body, which landed on the ground behind Tenshinhan, stand back up and kick Tenshinhan hard, knocking him out. Buu's lower and upper body reunite, and Buu smugly comments that while that guy seemed like quite an expert, he was still just a small fry that was taken out with a mere kick. The rest of them are all small fries too. Goku asks why he'd bother restoring himself if that was really the case.

-Buu thinks Goku must really want to die. Goku yells over to Gohan and tosses the other Potara at him, but Gohan wasn't paying attention and misses it. The earring falls in-between some nearby rocks and Goku tells him to hurry and find it, then put it on his right ear so they can fuse and defeat Buu. However, Buu thinks that would still be useless, but he won't allow them to fuse anyway. First he'll kill Goku, but Goku begs him to wait as Gohan searches through the rocks. Buu rushes at Goku, and so he becomes Super Saiyan 3 and prepares to fight. Buu then suddenly stops mid-air, just as Gohan finds the Potara. Buu begins transforming again, until he starts to resemble Piccolo. Goku laughs, thinking it's because Piccolo is now the strongest one inside Buu, since the youngsters have defused. Goku powers down, disappointed that now Gohan alone can defeat Buu like this.

The severed piece down on the ground then turns into a blob and suddenly envelops Gohan. The Potara drops to the ground, and Goku flies over and grabs it as Buu begins to transform again. The Kaiōshin think it's all over now, as Buu is now wearing Gohan's ''dōgi''. Goku frantically starts looking around. "I was gonna fuse with Gohan... There ain't no way around it!! Who else could I fuse with... Tenshinhan's down... Dende ain't a fighter... Mi-Mister Satan...?!"
