The Go! Go! Ackman 2 cel comic is a four-chapter manga series written by Sumio Uetake and illustrated by Satoru Iriyoshi, with editorial supervision from Akira Toriyama. Each chapter is four pages long and produced in full color.
The series serves as a sequel to and continuation from the original Go! Go! Ackman manga series and the preceding Go! Go! Ackman cel comic, and originally ran from the June 1995 (released 21 April 1995) to September 1995 (released 21 July 1995) issues of Shueisha's V-Jump magazine. The manga was serialized in conjunction with and to promote the Go! Go! Ackman 2 video game released on the Nintendo Super Famicom in July 1995.
At the end of its fourth chapter in the September 1995 issue, a small splash states that the final showdown will take place within the game, and "you" (the player) will be the one to do battle.
After a one-month break, the series was followed by a Go! Go! Ackman 3 cel comic starting in the November 1995 issue.
Characters
- Ackman (アックマン Akkuman): The "hero" of our story, a young demon looking to get out there and collect souls!
- Angel (天使 Tenshi): Ackman's primary opponent, though he doesn't pose much of a threat.
- The Metal Angels (メタルエンジェルズ Metaru Enjeruzu): The strongest band in heaven, which Ackman's angel adversary sicks on him.
- Gita (ギータ Giita): The long-nosed member of the Metal Angels that Ackman thinks looks like a horse.
- Bo Bokaru (ボ ボカル Bo Bokaru): Ackman's angel adversary mentions this person and their friends as having captured him.
- Archangel Michael (大天使ミカエル Daitenshi Mikaeru): Mentioned in the final song by the Metal Angels.
Production
The various "Cel Comic" series (セルコミック Seru Komikku) published in V-Jump — as opposed to standard comics (まんが manga) — were notable for their production using cel drawings, and in cases like The Brief Return of Dr. Slump, the Go! Go! Ackman cel comic, and the 1997 Savings Soldier Cashman reboot, continuing the story beyond the original manga series as first written by Akira Toriyama.
As listed on each Go! Go! Ackman 2 cel comic chapter title page:
- Sumio Uetake, new for the Go! Go! Ackman 2 cel comic and taking over for Takao Koyama before them, received the "Script" (脚本 kyakuhon) credit.
- Satoru Iriyoshi received the "Drawing" or "Painting" (繪 e) credit.
- Akira Toriyama received the "Original Author" or "Original Work" (原作 gensaku) credit, indicating his role as the creator of the original Go! Go! Ackman manga series. He additionally received the "Supervisor" or "Editorial Supervisor" (監修 kanshū) credit; as a point of comparison, Toriyama received the same credit many years later for Dragon Ball: Episode of Bardock, which was written and illustrated by Naho Ooishi.
