I20 is the official catalogue number of a piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 3 which was broadcast on 12 March 1986.
Overview
I20 is probably intended to be a reference to the melody of Makafushigi Adventure!, though the melody is fairly different. The full composition is part b of the suite entitled "Setting Out", which is track #02 on both the Ongakushū record and disc #2 of the Daizenshuu.
I20 is a piece that we imagine was included with the idea of a mighty foe lying in wait for Goku & co. It's a distinctive theme of evil, frequently used much later on in (among others) the Tenka'ichi Budōkai and Piccolo arcs.
— Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z Daizenshuu (2:2b)
I20 is given the title "The Kuma Mercenary" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions. The piece was assigned the Kanzenshuu catalogue number of K-36 based on its placement in the series.
