K-84 is the Kanzenshuu catalogue number assigned to an unreleased piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 9 which was broadcast on 23 April 1986.

Overview

K-84 is a short piece of a transitional nature. It is given the title "Short Work" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions.

Form and Analysis

K-84 is entirely in a dominant tonality (C7). It is recognizable as the dominant of F Minor, the arc's main key, by the lowered 6th and 7th scale degrees. The entire piece is five bars in a fast 4 with timpani, trumpet melody, and trombone countermelody. Its dominant tonality makes it a useful prelude for any BGM in F Minor.
