Kanzenshuu – The Podcast

Your one and only Dragon Ball podcast!

Our “weekly” podcast, then named Daizenshuu EX – The Podcast, began in November 2005 as a new way to reach out to our audience, extend that audience, and simply have fun with the franchise we love so much. Though we updated the name to Kanzenshuu – The Podcast in April 2012 with the launch of this website, we remain the best, most authoritative, entertaining, and only Dragon Ball podcast you will ever need!

Each episode, the Kanzenshuu staff discuss the latest news in the world of Dragon Ball from across the globe before heading into a core topic — whether it be an in-depth discussion of the way in which the story and franchise was produced, theories for in-universe scenarios and “What If?” scenes, interviews with those actually involved with the franchise, thorough reviews of video games or home video releases, we have you covered! We wrap things up with the month’s upcoming releases, questions from the listeners, and much more! We regularly have contests, broadcast live (watch our Twitter and Facebook!), and have a great time sharing our love of the Dragon Ball franchise with you all each and every week.

Special Podcast Episode: DBZ Video Game Music #2 — 15 September 2013

This week on the show we are taking a break from our usual news and topical discussions — even amidst Battle of Gods…! — to provide a follow-up to one of our favorite podcast episodes.

Earlier this year we dove into the past of Dragon Ball video game music, up through the 32-bit era, with great stories and great tunes. This time around, we invited another batch of friends on to tell us similar stories starting with the big gaming resurgence in 2002 and leading up into today’s most recent games. Last generation was absolutely huge with the DBZ / Budokai and Sparking! / Budokai Tenkaichi trilogies (and their respective spin-offs), along with tons of other great singular outings both on the consoles and portable systems.

Please enjoy this jump into our collective fandom’s most recent history, as well as the songs that defined these last couple generations of games.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
The Kanzenshuu crew brings on an incredible group of special guests to dive into the Dragon Ball franchise’s rich history of video game music. What were some of the songs that defined our fandom from the previous and current generation of games? Our focus is 2002-2013, so join us for a history lesson and some rockin’ tunes!

Enjoy! Discuss this episode on the Kanzenshuu forum. We would love to hear what some of your own picks are from this era of video games!

Podcast Episode #0342 — 27 August 2013

With the color versions of the Dragon Ball comic heating up again — with more digital volumes coming in Japan next month and Viz moving into the print world in February — it made sense to catch-up on this edition of the manga. It all started back in 2009 with Shueisha tossing chapters out for free and suddenly ceasing the entire thing, likely (and quickly) coming to the conclusion that they would eventually be able to digitally monetize such a product. What is out there, how much does it cost, what changes are there from the original version, and is it worth investing in?

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0342! VegettoEX and Julian dive into the world of Dragon Ball’s color comics. North America and Japan (as well as several other countries!) have been getting various print and digital releases of the color manga, but how do they all hold up? What else seems to be on the way? A week’s worth of standard video game news and a fun tease of future website content wraps up the episode!

Podcast Episode #0341 — 19 August 2013

This calm before the (Battle of Gods home release!) storm has us feeling a little nostalgic, so this time around on the show we dove back into the past to talk a little bit about alt.fan.dragonball. For younger fans, a completely decentralized message system — one not tied to any established website or existing community — might seem completely bonkers. For those of us at the time, it was a mystifying wild west of learning, discovery, and friendships. Kanzenshuu would not be what it is today without our favorite old newsgroup, so tune in for a little history lesson and real-talk about those formative years.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0341! VegettoEX and Julian dive into the days of alt.fan.dragonball, the essential newsgroup for discussing our favorite series back-in-the-day. Fun bits of “Dragon Ball Heroes” and other merchandise news wraps it up!

Podcast Episode #0339 — 15 July 2013

Akira Toriyama launched a new comic this week, and even better than that fact in and of itself, it is available simultaneously in English! Jaco the Galactic Patrolman officially hit Japanese shelves via Weekly Shōnen Jump a couple days early on Saturday (courtesy of today being “Marine Day” pushing WJ out ahead of its normal Monday release), but it also hits digital shelves today from Viz. In fact, the first chapter is available for free via their latest starter pack, so there are no excuses!

What does this have to do with Dragon Ball, though, and why are we covering it on the podcast?

Various hints have been dropped that Jaco may have something to do with our favorite series. This week on our show, we dive into these hints and look for hidden connections of our own.

With multiple new video games on the horizon, recent manga compilations from Viz, upcoming video re-releases from FUNimation, and even international remasters of the series recently announced, it is understandable how one might think we accidentally stumbled a decade into the past. It truly is 2013, though, so tune in for some great news analysis, a review of Viz’s recent 3-in-1 edition of the manga, and a bit of calling-out Takao Koyama for some recent statements about a product he may have gotten a little too self-invested in despite not actually working on it.

Podcast Episode #0336 — 17 June 2013

It seems many of us had a similar idea yesterday: celebrate Father’s Day by tearing apart all the paternal figures in the Dragon Ball series! This week on the podcast, in addition to saying our goodbyes to the great Kenji Utsumi, we toss around all the Dragon Ball dads to see what makes them tick. Who is the most involved in their children’s lives? Who is not, but at least has a good excuse for it? With the way Toriyama writes, can anyone truly be considered a “good dad”…?!

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0336! To celebrate Father’s Day, we tear apart all the bad dads in the series. Goku usually takes the brunt of the criticism, but is this fair? Who else ignores their children, and who does the best job in being a part of their children’s lives? Goodbyes to the great voice actor Kenji Utsumi and news recaps wrap up the show.
