Universe Seven is called simply "Our Universe". It is the universe in which the entirety of the story takes place before other universes are explored in Dragon Ball Super. The universe is ruled by the KaiōshinShin, the God of DestructionBeerus, and his attendant AngelWhis. As of Dragon Ball Super Episode 83, Universe 7 only has 28 inhabited worlds remaining.
Universe 7's rank at the beginning of the Tournament of Power is No. 11 out of 12, above only Universe 9.[1] In the manga continuity, after Universe 7 wins the tournament, the Great Priest tells Shin that No. 17's wish to restore the erased universes has caused them to be elevated to the No. 10 rank. However, it is unknown whether any of the other universes' rankings were adjusted.[2]
Shin is the current Kaiōshin of Universe 7. In ancient times, he held the position of East Kaiōshin, at a time when there were four cardinal Kaiōshin ruled by Dai Kaiōshin. He was the youngest of them, and the only one to survive the terror of Majin Boo during the reign of the sorcerer Bibbidi.[3] When Bibbidi sealed Boo to transport him to Earth, his next target, Shin killed him and left Boo on the planet inside his seal. Shin is normally referred to by his title, but he uses his given name[1] as an alias when he enters the 25th Tenka'ichi Budōkai with his attendant Kibito on Earth[4] after they discover that Bibbidi's son Bobbidi plans to release Boo from his seal.[5]
The Elder Kaiōshin is a companion and advisor to Shin, the current Kaiōshin of Universe 7. His given name is not known. He is the product of a Potara fusion with an old witch who is the source of some of his mysterious powers,[6] and he served as Kaiōshin in Universe 7 fifteen generations before Shin.[7] He was trapped in the Z Sword during a trivial quarrel with the God of DestructionBeerus, who had been visiting the Kaiōshin Realm for their millennial coordination meeting.[8][9] The sword was secured in rock, and none of the Kaiōshin had ever been strong enough to pull it out.[10]Son Gohan becomes the first to retrieve the sword,[11] which is broken during his training when Shin encourages him to test the sword's strength against Katchin Steel.[7] The Elder Kaiōshin then performs a ritual to increase Gohan's power.[12] He later gives his life to Son Goku so that Goku can fight Majin Boo,[13] and his life is restored by the NamekianDragon Balls after Boo is defeated.[14]
Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7 and he is attended by the AngelWhis. Beerus's twin brother Champa holds the same position in Universe 6 and is attended by Whis's sister Vados. Beerus's name was originally adapted from the Japanese transliteration of the German pronunciation of Virus (ビールス/Biirusu). In the original script for Battle of Gods, Yūsuke Watanabe had imagined Beerus as the God of Destruction responsible for infecting the Saiyans with evil.[15][16] When Akira Toriyama revised the script, he thought that the pun was on the German word Bier (also ビールス), so he named Beerus's attendant Whis after "whiskey".[17] This accident served to establish the theme of Gods of Destruction and Angels being named after alcoholic beverages. Beerus was designed by Toriyama.[18]
Whis is an Angel who serves as a guide to Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7. Whis's name is derived from "whiskey" (ウイスキー), a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash and aged in wooden casks, generally made of charred white oak.[17]
