K-9 is the Kanzenshuu catalogue number assigned to an unreleased piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 1 which was broadcast on 26 February 1986.

Overview

K-9 is given the title "The Chase Is On!" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions.

Compositional Analysis

K-9 begins with a 4-bar intro, followed by an 8-bar synth melody (in two 4-bar phrases), then a 2-bar string bridge, then a new 4-bar synth melody, the last note of which is held for an additional 1.5 bars. All instruments resolve to F in a final two bars, for a total of 21 bars.

0:09: Begins with the first phrase of the first synth melody, which is followed by the final bar.
Dragon Ball Episode 38

Goku chases the ninja Murasaki.

Dragon Ball Episode 46

Bulma is chased by Red Ribbon Army helicopters. (After she rebuffs their advances, they chase her in the helicopters again, to K-124.)
0:23: Skips the 2-bar intro. The third bar of the second synth melody is followed by the final bar.
