I15 is the official catalogue number of a piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1986. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 4 which was broadcast on 19 March 1986.

Overview

I15 is a mostly-dissonant tension piece. It begins with the same dissonant string sounds used in H4. The full composition is part c of the suite entitled "Danger Is Everywhere", which is track #10 on both the Ongakushū record and disc #2 of the Daizenshuu.

I15 is given the title "Oolong The Groom" on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant, the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions. The piece was assigned the Kanzenshuu catalogue number of K-51 based on its placement in the series.

Form and Analysis

I15 begins with the same dissonant string sounds used in H4. These top string sound is an F; the bottom note is an E, making a semitone dissonance. The F dips down to the fifth (C) and back up, while the dissonant lower note alternates between E and B. This 5-1 motion on F is a weak basis for a key, though, and when the flute comes in on C (the fifth), there is a dissonance almost an octave below on C♯. The piece is only rooted on F when the guitar comes in: F-C-E-C-F-C-E. This stronger 5-1 motion ties the piece more strongly to the arc's main key: F Minor. There is no third anywhere in the piece, though; the designation of "minor" is based entirely on the relationship to the rest of the arc's score and the darker affect of the prominent dissonances.
