K-303 is the Kanzenshuu catalogue number assigned to an unreleased piece of background music (BGM) composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi for the Dragon Ball anime in 1987. The piece debuted in Dragon Ball Episode 47 which was broadcast on 21 January 1987.
Overview
K-303 is a short punctuational piece in F Minor. It is not given a title on The Suburbs of kenisu's Magicant,[1] the most common source for fan titles of Kikuchi's compositions; kenisu seems to have thought it was part of a larger piece which he could not identify. Other fans identified it as a unique piece and gave it the title "At Blue's Base" based on kenisu's scene description at its debut.[2]
Compositional Analysis
K-303 is about two bars long. It does not have a definitive meter, but we have transcribed it in 3.
A saxophone and a guitar begin on F and move up to A♭ (the 1st and 3rd scale degrees of F Minor). Then a vibraphone plays C (the 5th) together with a B♮ for dissonance. (The 4th scale degree of F Minor is B♭.)
The pause between the A♭ and the vibraphone is a little longer than our transcription, but without a definitive meter, it is impossible to transcribe it accurately.
