Kanzenshuu – The Podcast

Your one and only Dragon Ball podcast!

Our “weekly” podcast, then named Daizenshuu EX – The Podcast, began in November 2005 as a new way to reach out to our audience, extend that audience, and simply have fun with the franchise we love so much. Though we updated the name to Kanzenshuu – The Podcast in April 2012 with the launch of this website, we remain the best, most authoritative, entertaining, and only Dragon Ball podcast you will ever need!

Each episode, the Kanzenshuu staff discuss the latest news in the world of Dragon Ball from across the globe before heading into a core topic — whether it be an in-depth discussion of the way in which the story and franchise was produced, theories for in-universe scenarios and “What If?” scenes, interviews with those actually involved with the franchise, thorough reviews of video games or home video releases, we have you covered! We wrap things up with the month’s upcoming releases, questions from the listeners, and much more! We regularly have contests, broadcast live (watch our Twitter and Facebook!), and have a great time sharing our love of the Dragon Ball franchise with you all each and every week.

Podcast Episode #0364 — 04 July 2014

Here at Kanzenshuu, we covered the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods original Japanese theatrical release back on Episode #0328 of our podcast followed by the Japanese home release back on Episode #0344. This time around on the show it’s time for our third major “official Battle of Gods release” celebration: North America!

This week’s episode is all about setting up our home country for the movie. A trio of FUNimation voice actors/directors — Sean Schemmel, Christopher Sabat, and Justin Cook — join us to talk about the movie itself, its themes, some of the casting choices, and much more. To wrap things up, our buddy Josh joins us to talk about the “red carpet” event leading up to the debut of the film’s English dub.

Podcast Episode #0363 — 18 June 2014

Once again, Dragon Ball Kai is turning out to be an absolute mess, this time courtesy of its Majin Boo arc revival/extension.

We recently detailed how the version currently being broadcast on Fuji TV in Japan appears to be a further-edited-down-version from what is being sent out to international licensees. This time around on our podcast, we go back to the beginning to break down what exactly Dragon Ball Kai is and was supposed to be, how we got to where we are today, and what may be the cause of this fractured production.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0363! VegettoEX and Hujio break down the current state of “Dragon Ball Kai” both in Japan and internationally. What was the “refreshed” version of “Dragon Ball Z” supposed to be, what did it become, and how did we get to this point? Why are there two versions of the Majin Boo arc being produced? Our thoughts, your thoughts, and a whole slew of information break the whole situation down!

Podcast Episode #0362 — 06 May 2014

It has been a crazy week for in-universe informational bombshells from original manga author Akira Toriyama. From the Boo arc-related tidbits in the June 2014 Saikyō Jump Q&A to the Artificial Human back-stories in the “Full Color” comics, all of fandom has scurried to go back and compare details to see what fits. This week on the show, we dive into these new bits of information and ask a very important question:

Is this what we want Toriyama doing?

Podcast Episode #0361 — 29 April 2014

It’s all Bardock all the time this week on the show! Our buddy Lance joins us to really dissect the character across all of the primary media he comes from: the 1990 TV special, the 2011 manga/anime “sequel” to the TV special, and the recent bonus chapter.

Who was Bardock? Who is Bardock now? Can we even answer these questions…?

Podcast Episode #0360 — 22 April 2014

It sure has been a crazy month! It would be impossible to catch up on each bit of individual news since the last podcast episode, so we will likely break everything out into individual topics. To start things off, Kirran joins us again to review J-Stars Victory Vs on the PS3 and Vita. It is a Dragon Ball game as much as it is a game for every other franchise included. Especially coming off Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z, should you be checking out this game as well?

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0360! VegettoEX and LordMoonstone review “J-Stars Victory Vs” for the PlayStation 3 and Vita. Though we just came off a DBZ-proper video game, is this the game everyone should have waited for instead? Is there enough for DBZ-only fans? Your enthusiasm for early 2014 in the Dragon World is at its peak, so let’s look forward to what else we have on the horizon!

Podcast Episode #0359 — 17 March 2014

While we have a brief moment to catch our breath before the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai kicks into high gear, we decided to take a momentary and somewhat random look back at Dragon Ball Z Movie 8. We still have a full podcast episode dissecting Broli (the character, the obsessive fandom, etc.) planned for a little ways down the line, but in the mean time, what made his first movie appearance different from all the others? What does scriptwriter Takao Koyama think about the character, and how did his own personal religious beliefs perhaps come into play in writing the movie’s conclusion?

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0359! VegettoEX and Meri discuss Dragon Ball Z Movie 8 for no particular reason. What makes the first Broli movie different from the others in terms of both story and character development? How do scriptwriter Takao Koyama’s own personal religious beliefs perhaps come into play during the movie’s conclusion? News from across the world (specifically Jaco home release plans) and a look forward to Spring 2014 wrap up the episode!

Podcast Episode #0358 — 10 March 2014

Being only about a month out from the revival of Dragon Ball Kai in Japan for the Majin Boo arc, it is to be expected that we will be crashing into walls of news left and right over the next several weeks. Some of the recent voice recast announcements along with the appointment of Norihito Sumitomo as the musical composer give us plenty to talk about, so let’s party like it’s 2009 and chat up Dragon Ball Kai all over again!

Podcast Episode #0357 — 04 March 2014

Back in December we brought on Kirran / @LordMoonstone to do the job that the developers of the new video game Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z were seemingly unwilling to do: explain what the heck the game was. Fighting game? Team-battle game? Both? Neither?

This time around, Kirran joins us again to discuss the full retail version of the game a month after its release. With expectations in check, does it live up to its potential? Is the full roster diverse enough? Are online matches even playable? Listen in to find out, and stay tuned to the site for our (eventual…!) full written review of the game.

Podcast Episode #0356 — 26 February 2014

The year is off to a strange start! Dragon Ball Kai is (finally?!) coming back, more books than you can shake a stick at are due out around the same time, and Dragon Ball Heroes continues its stranglehold on the youth of Japan. If you somehow fell asleep in 1997 and just woke back up, you could be forgiven for not realizing there was actually a break for the franchise for a little while there.

After a few weeks’ break from podcasting, we return to catch up on some of these biggest news stories. How does the return of Kai figure in to financial projections for the various companies? Is the supposed alternate/Ocean dub of Kai actually still on the way? What is going on with Battle of Z these days? How do I go about playing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn with the Kanzenshuu community? All these questions and more coming to your ears right now!

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Episode #0356! VegettoEX and Hujio discuss the impending return of “Dragon Ball Kai” and what this means for the franchise’s financial figures in the coming year. The theoretical alternate Ocean English dub of “Kai” gets some attention, as does the wealth of books coming our way this April on both sides of the sea. “Who’s That Character?” and website content teases wrap up the show!
