Re: Were Fusions just a pointless addition to the franchise?

"Neat gimmick" is a good way to put it.

Totally worth it for the Gotenks - Buu fight (although I suppose that theoretically could have been accomplished even without fusion)

Re: DB and DBZ - How different are they?

The only believable argument that I think truly supports the notion that DB and DBZ are different is that DB is the story of Goku while DBZ is the story of Gohan. Even if you just watch Head Cha La and We Gotta Power, Gohan is the most prominent character featured. And I actually do think it was ...

Re: What phrases/opinions/things bring out your irate fanboy

People giving Out-Of-Universe answers to In-Universe questions seems to be a big one for me as of late.

Yeah, I think it can be to keep that distinction between out-of-universe and in-universe when discussing something.

Take Mr. Satan as an example in the opposite direction -- I've often read ...

Re: DBZ Abridged dub is now my favorite

No doubt, TFS does a phenomenal job.

Perhaps one advantage they have is that they already knew the characters and story back-and-front before even beginning their series, and were able to form the voices / tone of the characters accordingly. Obviously they throw in plenty of their own elements and ...

Re: Why so much hate for Gohan now?

He is nicely developing as one.

By not doing shit? Again, I'm not saying Gohan needs to be like Goku, what I'm just saying he needs to act like a successor instead of being just a bookworm.

I gotta disagree with the successor thing. At this point he's not that no more. I don't mind him being a ...

Re: Goku letting Vegeta live, better in the dub rewrite?

Usually I try and err towards 'to each his own' on matters, but in this case it's my response is good god no.

I actually think the fundamental distinction between the two speeches is the reason why I still cherish the series 15 years after I originally watched it, as opposed to every other kids ...

Re: Ironic Things...

My favorite: Piccolo kidnaps four year old Gohan to train him to utilize his anger and ultimately follow him down the path of the demon warlord. Goku trains Gohan to control his anger and follow him down the path of situational savior of the world.

Both fail: by doing what the other wanted ...

Re: How did DB fans react to Goku retconned as an alien?

This is a really interesting topic that I've wondered about. Disappointing to end up reading pages of a semantic argument about the definition of 'retcon.'

As someone else mentioned, one of my regrets is that a lot of stuff was spoiled for me before -- Super Saiyan, Trunks, the whole Androids/Cell ...

Re: Let's Appreciate the Faulconer Score

I agree with the OP. The composition, imo, of a lot of the Faulconer score is excellent. As mentioned, I'm quite surprised as to how well the themes/leitmotifs fit in with various characters and situations, which speaks to the team actually doing a lot of research into the story and characters ...

Re: Thoughts on the final 5-ep filler arc of Dragonball?

It's okay. I like having more peaceful gaps in-between major conflict (Saiyaman is my favorite saga in the series), so some padding between Piccolo and Raditz was nice. But I don't love how they basically had to create another minor conflict as part of the filler. The obvious strength is the bonding ...

Re: How long have you ever left the Dragonball series before

I've actually been trying to piece together my fandom, as well.

I'm 29 now, and started watching the initial airings on Toonami like a lot of us. I definitely remember watching during the switch over from the Ocean cast, but also gave it up prior to the end of the Freeza saga. I did have a lot of ...

Re: Lets end this once and for all! Question to the BoG/FnF

I probably have a bit of a unique perspective on this as my fandom was recently revived (mostly due to the news of Super) after being completely dormant for several years. I watched both new movies without any knowledge as to whether Toriyama was involved or not.

BoG is undoubtedly my favorite DBZ ...

Hopefully 0.

Seriously though, I think DB needs the Kai treatment far more than GT does.

Having a good excuse doesn't make it any less terrible to watch.

You're right.

But Funimation has much less of an excuse why their dub was fucking horrible. And what little excuse they do have (inexperience) doesn't make it any less terrible to listen to.

Absolutely.

Like most, I vastly ...

Re: Why all the hate with Kai??

Don't understand the claim that Kai's music is generic, at all. Granted, I don't watch any anime outside of Dragon Ball, but it seems that a good chunk of the music has been greatly "influenced" from the scores of a number of different major motion pictures. That's probably why I like have enjoyed ...

Absolutely the Kai dub. Either one, really. It's the only vocal insert song (i.e., no Battle Point) in any iteration of DB that I don't dislike.

Did Mr. Satan pull a bus in the manga? I don't recall a scene like that. Sounds like some Cell Games filler...
It's filler, yeah. So is him ripping phone books in half. In the manga we only see him break that pile of tiles, really.

This doesn't do as much for comparative purposes to real life ...
