The Dragon Ball Hit Song Collection is the first album-length song collection for the Dragon Ball franchise. The album contains full-length (as opposed to TV-Size) versions of the opening (OP) and ending (ED) songs, one image song that was never used in the anime ("Hunt for Mr. Dream"), and every insert song that was used in the series with the exception of the two "Red Ribbon" insert songs.
At the time the Hit Song Collection was released, the manga was in the Red Ribbon arc, but the anime was still in the 21st Tenka'ichi Budōkai arc. The two "Red Ribbon" insert songs were released on the Dragon Ball Complete Song Collection in 1991, along with the full contents of the Hit Song Collection, plus four more image songs that were never used in the anime.
The songs of this collection were also included on Disc 1 of the Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z Daizenshuu box set release in 1994, reproducing the full contents of the Complete Song Collection along with a new remix of "Mystical Adventure".
