The Dragon Ball Z Season DVDs are Funimation's first digitally remastered release and overall third release of the Dragon Ball Z TV series. These "season" sets are colloquially known as the "Orange Bricks"; they were released in North America between 06 February 2007 and 19 May 2009. The original Japanese anime is divided into arcs rather than seasons.
Previous to this release, episodes 28 through 67 of Dragon Ball Z were not available subtitled in North America (Region 1). They were available heavily edited on VHS and DVD, but only featured Funimation's first English dub with the "Ocean Studios" cast. The Ultimate Uncut Editions were initally planned to cover the first 67 episodes with Funimation's new in-house redub, but were cancelled after Volume 9, in favor of these new "Season" releases. Season Two features vocal redubs of a few characters past Episode 67 and through to end of Season Three.
These were formally announced via press release from Funimation on 13 November 2006.[1]
