"A Great Inspiration!! I'm Ready! The Awesome Guy from the Afterlife" is the one hundred and ninety-fifth episode of the Japanese animated television series Dragon Ball Z. The episode first aired in Japan on Fuji TV on 28 July 1993, receiving a ratings share of 22.5%. It was written by Aya Matsui and directed by Mitsuo Hashimoto.
Synopsis
Goku goes to Dai Kaiō's planet to try and meet Dai Kaiō, said to be the strongest in the afterlife. There Goku meets Paikuhan, the martial arts master of the western galaxy. The Dai Kaiō then shows himself, but he tells them that the dead Cell and Freeza are running wild in Hell. Goku heads to Hell with Paikuhan, but Paikuhan instantly defeats Cell and the rest. Goku is inspired by Paikuhan's strength.
Summary
Part A
On the Serpentine Road, Son Goku prods Kaiō to go faster so that they can meet the martial arts masters of Afterlife. Kaiō scolds him for being impatient, but also reminds Goku that he must be on his best behavior when he meets one of the most important people in the cosmos, the Dai Kaiō. Kaiō explains that the Dai Kaiō stands above him and his counterparts of the South, West, and East galaxies. Dai Kaiō is also a supporter of martial arts and he allows great fighters of justice to keep their bodies in the Afterlife to train with him on his planet. Goku nearly bursts with excitement and races down the road, nearly knocking Kaiō off the edge in the process. (Kaiō flails for a moment on the brink of falling down to Hell, until he remembers that he can fly!) Goku rushes back to ask how to get to Dai Kaiō's planet; Kaiō responds that they need to take an airplane. Goku rushes off again, only to return to ask where they can get an airplane. Kaiō clarifies that there is an airport near King Enma, at the start of the Serpentine Road. Goku runs off yet again, but quickly returns a third time. He grabs Kaiō, Bubbles, and Gregory then just teleports them all... over Kaiō's objections.
The four arrive at King Enma, hard at work judging the souls of the dead. They exchange pleasantries, but Goku is impatient and leaves quickly to locate the airport. He surprises Yama, an oni office worker, who is startled to see someone with a "free pass" and their own body in the Afterlife. At the airport, spirits bound for Heaven board a plane with the help of two other oni, Suenaga and Shimoto. Goku and Kaiō board an old and rundown plane for the trip to Dai Kaiō's as Bubbles and Gregory wave them off.
A short time later, Goku and Kaiō arrive at Dai Kaiō's Planet. Goku is unimpressed, finding it smaller than he expected, until he sees martial artists sparring in the courtyard. Kaiō spots former pupils from the North Galaxy and says hello; he tells Goku that he last saw them 2,300 years ago.
Part B
Outside the Dai Kaiō's palace, Kaiō reminds Goku to be respectful. Goku is excited to see someone strong, but Kaiō admits that even he has never seen Dai Kaiō fight. While they wait, Kaiō discovers and goes nuts over a classic car in Dai Kaiō's driveway. Goku just stands off to the side looking confused.
From across the courtyard, West Kaiō shouts at Kaiō in surprise and anger. He had just come to visit Paikuhan, a fighter from his own galaxy. Before he explains further, he notices Kaiō's halo and bursts out laughing. Goku takes responsibility for his master's death, but West Kaiō doesn't care. The two masters argue over whose pupil is stronger, as Goku and Paikuhan look on uncomfortably. Kaiō suggests that the pair fight it out to see who is stronger, but they are interrupted by the appearance of Dai Kaiō in a blast of light and smoke.
Once the dust settles, Dai Kaiō reveals himself to be a casually-dressed, boombox-listening, old man. Goku is speechless. Before they can discuss anything, Dai Kaiō asks Paikuhan for help: something has happened in Hell! Cell, freshly arrived, has discovered Freeza and the pair are wrecking the place. Paikuhan leaves immediately, but Goku follows close behind, much to Kaiō's embarrassment that he did not ask permission but Dai Kaiō doesn't seem to mind. As they fly to Hell, Paikuhan is also perturbed at Goku's rudeness for inviting himself. Goku explains that Cell and Freeza are more powerful than Paikuhan expects and that he will need his help.
In Hell, the place has been wrecked. Gozu and Mezu beg for their lives before realizing that the new arrival is Goku and not Cell. The pair recognize the Saiyan that had fallen to Hell many years earlier and reveal that they had been hiding from Cell. Some time later, the pair allowed themselves to be captured. Mezu is tormented by Cell, but now he is joined by even more villains: his father, King Cold, as well as Reacoom, Butta, Jheese, and Gurd from the Ginyu Special Force. Cell is about to impale Mezu on a mountain of spikes before Goku makes his entrance and rescues the oni.
Freeza sends the remains of the Ginyu Force after Goku, but he defeats them all without effort. Freeza and Cold are shocked at Goku's strength, but Cell reminds them that he was responsible for Goku's death and is capable of dealing with him now. Cell charges in to attack, but Paikuhan stops him in his tracks and knocks him into the lake of blood. Goku marvels at his ally's speed and strength as he takes out Freeza and Cell in one blow apiece. Paikuhan spins and sends Cell and all of the other villains flying into the spikes. A short time later, they are all in a prison cell in Hell. Cold claims that it is Hell to be beaten and not even be able to die.
Goku is pleased that the uprising has been put down. Paikuhan smiles at Goku, finally beginning to thaw towards the Saiyan. Goku is just excited to learn that there are so many strong fighters in the Afterlife.

Tidbits
- North Kaiō meets two unnamed warriors from the North Galaxt at Dai Kaiō's Planet. They had been training there for 2300 years. They knew North Kaiō and it is implied that he may have trained them. (If so, he would have trained them around Age -1563.)
- This is the first appearance of Mezu, Gozu, Reacoom, Butta, Jheese, and Gurd since Dragon Ball Z Episode 95. First appearance of King Cold and Freeza since Dragon Ball Z Episode 121, not counting Freeza's recent appearance as a "ghost warrior" in Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans Episode 1 which was released a few days prior to this episode.
- Fighters on Dai Kaiō's Planet resemble Shamo (from Dragon Ball Z Movie 8), Moah (also from Movie 8) and warriors from Planet Kanassa (from the Bardock special).
Goku's New Transformation
During the development of the Afterlife Tournament arc, the writers initially intended Son Goku to become a Super Saiyan in this episode. Some or all of the episode was animated that way and the form was included in the next episode preview in the previous episode. However, they changed the art late in the process to keep Goku in his base form, albeit one with a yellow aura and spiky hair. This may have been to allow Son Goku to keep his transformation secret from his new rival, Paikuhan.

The next episode preview showed Goku as a Super Saiyan while battling against Freeza and the others. -
But in the episode itself, Goku remained in a spiky-hair variation on his base form.
